hey do any of u guys remember the roleplaying forums on the old website? well take the battle of chogorus. that was all made up right?
well heres my idea...why dont we play games on DOW against each other and do a campaign on that? basically a real 40K campaign but on DOW u can play what u want when u want...we can do defensive games buy building up ans stuff...i think it would be a good idea anyway. post what u think or if u got any ideas here
That's a cool idea - the only real drawback I can think of is that you could only play as Space Marines, Chaos, Orks, Eldar or Guard. Other than that yeah you could organise games before you play them and agree on any special "rules of engagement" to get the scenario right. Nice one, Squall - a very clever way to put a new twist on the online gaming.
BTW I had an idea and this seems like the ideal place to post it - did everybody enjoy the Chogoris campaign? I think it had lots of cool battles, twists and cinematic moments to make for a good TT campaign "refight"! Almost every army is accomodated. What do you think? I reckon it would be a good way to meet the rest of the clan face to face - I think most of us that play DOW also play 40K.
I've even been crazy enough to draw up a campaign map (I used it to keep tabs on the "big picture" in the original campaign so I could write the weekly reports) and write some trial scenarios; if you want to read them I'll post them up.

i would love that man but i dont live near u guys:( im in edinburgh i think ill get some ideas down on paper aswell for the online games
also do u think that points would work online? u know 1000point game and such...ive been toying with that idea as well it could be good...but id need to come up with a point list
PS it's nice to have someone on at the same time as me for a change!

well my idea was basically to play it like a REAL game i.e
say we have 1000 points (small i know)
id have to make up a whole new point scheme for the armys but id post em here and have a copy myself. best if u guys take 1 each. and we play like maybe...a take and hold game with 100 points...then iff good wins they have to go into an assult game if bad wins the good have to play a defencive game...id have to work out all points for game seperately but given enough time i think i could do it
So just the same points as in the relevant Codexes? But some troop types are better/worse than in TT (Khorne Berserkers = ace, Rangers = crap)
It would be kinda easy to cheat though - even if it's just accidentally adding a Sergeant or whatever. If a heavy weapon trooper dies can you replace him? And can you reinforce squads?

thats the kinda kinks id have to work out. id like to have ur help on the subject lol but the way i see it...all we could do id trust each other not to cheat and no reinforcing squads...ud build up to ur point limit then build no more.
and as for unit usefulness thats y id have to sit for AGES redoing the point system. and if a heavy wep guy dies then no...u cant do it in TT so it wouldent be applicable here...like i say im still toying with the idea and theres gunna be some kinks in it at first...maybe u could get on and we could work things out togetha
Let's work through it army by army - say start with Space Marines?
Tac Squads = Same pts as in Codex
Scouts = Perhaps give them a points break since you can only get 4 in a squad. Obviously the only heavy weapons you can pick are 0-2 Sniper Rifles/Flamers. As Scouts don't actually get flamers and plasma guns I'd charge them at Tac squad rate.
Commander = About the same - add up the points for a Thunder Hammer and pistol, Battlecry would probably be covered by Rites of Battle cost. For orbital strike look at the Daemonhunters Codex. If you want the commander veteran upgrade give him Terminator Honours etc
Assault Marines = Maybe charge a bit more?
Sergeants = ALL must have and pay for the same weapons ie Chainsword/Power Weapon/Power Fist. Don't need to charge for Rally as this is kind of counted for by "And They Shall Know No Fear"

BTW will we be sticking to the force organisation chart?

i like ur points idea but i dont se the point in charging the squads for stuff they cant get rid of e.g the sarge...we wouldent charge for his base wep or skills but any additions will be added to the points cost...
eg. way he is 75pt base value adding a power sword takes him to 100 a power fist 125 all of this would be made BEFORE the battle started...it would be build up THEN fight.
and yea i think we should stick to the FOC otherwise games could be dominated with terms and such. every game will be base FOC but ill fine tune every games.. e.g if playing a defence game the attackers get 1hq 2 troops 1 elite unit whil defenders might get 1hq 2 troops 1 heavy wep
ittl all depend on the scenario were playing. ill look in the rule book for there ideas
hmmm... i like ur points idea but i dont se the point in charging the squads for stuff they cant get rid of e.g the sarge...
In TT a regular sergeant is basically just another marine, especially if he's got a bolter rather than pistol and CCW. So I'd say if you want a sgt (in DOW) you should pay to upgrade him to a vet sgt in your army list plus any extra wargear eg power fist.

true true...forgot about that lol. and even if we do the campaigns i think that weed need to take it down a notch...i know enough about TT history but the things u and tidal went on about just confused me lol...i think we should have a 2nd topic for each campaign explaning step by step whats actually goin on! i.e we post on campaign then post what we mean on the 2nd topic.
Oh, soz - what sort of things are you talking about that we said?

To get back on topic, a note about Tac squads and special weapons...
Tac squads in 40K I think are versatile enough to represent Veteran, Tactical and Devastator squads, depending on their weapon options
Veteran Squad - May take 2 special weapons (Flamer/Plasma) OR 1 special and 1 Heavy, charged at codex rate. Also, if a Leader starts the DOW battle attached to the squad you can take all 3 HQ units (representing a Bodyguard squad under the new codex) but they must stay with the squad unless it is destroyed. I don't really know how to factor in Terminator Honours or close-combat oriented Veterans...perhaps use Assault Squads in DOW to represent them but then of course Leaders can't join them...
Tactical Squad - May take 1 special and/or 1 heavy, charged at codex rate. Perhaps allow 2 specials as a representation of the "Cleanse and Purify" trait (if Chapter Traits wouldn't make it too complicated - as an aside I think Blood Ravens in 40K should have Purity Above All - you can attach up to 4 Apothecaries to squads in DOW - and Suffer Not the Alien to Live - they are experts at fighting all kinds of xenos - balanced by Eye to Eye - they don't get bikes in DOW -instead of the nonsensical Trust Your Battle Brothers, See But Don't Be Seen, and Flesh Over Steel)
Devastator Squads - May not take special weapons but may take up to 4 heavies (missile/heavy bolter) at codex rate, maybe missile launchers should be cheaper than in codex as they are only good against tanks in DOW (in 40K terms, they only fire Krak missiles).
And Terminator squads would have to have their points cost greatly increased since their Storm Bolters are absolute death-cannons in DOW. Plus the fact that they are hard as nails (after the Space Marine fashion )

Better than being one of those psycho Battle Sister nuns-with-guns of the Adeptus Sororitas
