RE: New Adventure

<ooc - Continuation. I had another idea as well but for it to work it kinda has to happen before my last post. So here it all is again, the extended version if you will>

Tritoch with Sonya on his back swept past Sin, strafing him with a barrage of elemental magic. Sin roared his anger and attacked back but Tritoch dodged nimbly, weaving through the devastating energy blasts in a graceful airborne ballet. Sonya used her Atellian ring to charge her magic-depleted staff up again as they banked in a graceful arc for another pass.

“We need to hit him harder, Tritoch!” Sonya yelled over the wind rushing past them. Though the Balance Bird’s Tri-Dazer attack was powerful, it didn’t seem to be wearing down Sin’s defences at any great rate. She closed her eyes and drew on Tritoch’s Farsight to reach out and touch the minds of Leviathan and his two passengers as the great serpent slithered through the air on the other side of the aerial battlefield.

“Holy frak!” she sensed Fariel curse in surprise, “Sonya will you not sneak into my head like that!?”

“Sorry Fari, but could you give us a hand? We need to combine our attacks.”

“Love to,” Fariel said with a wicked grin.

“Hit Sin with Leviathan’s Tsunami,” Tanis said quietly, “And Sonya, cast Firannon to coincide with it. Then hit him with Tritoch’s Tri-Dazer and while he’s stunned I’ll finish off with Ultima.”

Sonya nodded then opened her eyes to cancel the spell, and saw Leviathan banking towards Sin. Tritoch dived to meet him. Sin sent both Sin-spawn and blasts of magic to stop them but Leviathan and Tritoch just smashed and dodged their way through respectively. Leviathan reared up as he approached Sin and unleashed a massive cyclone of water, Fariel casting her own Wateraga to add to the thundering tidal wave. Sin screeched and twisted away as it impacted against his massive dragon-like head and just as it did, Sonya unleashed a barrage of elvish lightning, the magic lighting up around her like a halo as she poured everything she had into the spell. As Tanis had predicted, the Firannon was conducted through the water of Leviathan’s attack, making it hit home with all the more force. It washed over Sin in a violent wave of leaping, crackling water, and the monster screamed.

Sonya collapsed against Tritoch’s back, drained, but Tritoch himself was fresh and ready, and he rose up in the air, spread his wings and unleashed his own attack in a spiralling triple-helix of fire, ice and lightning. The lightning bolt smashed into Sin in the wake of Sonya’s, vaporising the remaining water with the force of the blast. The stream of ice crackled and spread across Sin’s armour, burning him with terrible cold. Then the fire stream hit home, shattering the ice and flaring against Sin with such power that he twisted away in pain. Tanis seized his chance, leaping forward off Leviathan and somersaulting through the air, he roared the spell Ultima in mid-flip, unleashing a roaring blast of soulfire before landing on Leviathan's back again. The sheer fury of his attack sent Sin reeling through the air despite his size.

From his vantage point on Ramuh’s shoulder, Kobie saw Sin stagger under the impact of the apocalyptic combination attack. As Ramuh thrust his staff forward to cast another powerful lightning bolt, Kobie leapt into a Timeshift and threw himself off the Aeon’s shoulder. At reduced speed, the lightning bolt made a stuttering white contrail that caused visible ripples in the air as it lanced through it, splitting it apart. Kobie slid down onto it, surfing along the crackling beam so that it carried him towards Sin. He twisted his body and side-flipped over a Sin-spawn that was moving in slow-motion to intercept him, his Atellian blades sweeping through the monster in an ice-blue arc as he corkscrewed over it.

As the Timeshift ended, Kobie leapt over the explosion caused by the lightning bolt hammering into Sin and landed on the dragon-like creature’s back as the sparks dissipated. Ramuh’s voice flashed in his mind, telling him what to do, and he rammed one set of blades into Sin’s back, so deep that his gauntleted fist smashed against the creature’s armour. Though Sin barely registered the blow, Kobie punched his other fist upwards as Ramuh raised his staff in both hands, attracting streams of forked lightning down from the sky until the staff blazed with power. In one almighty jolt, the lightning leapt from Ramuh’s staff to the blades of Kobie’s upraised gauntlet, coruscating over him and channelling down through his other gauntlet to tear into Sin. Ramuh’s power protected Kobie from the lightning, but Sin let out an ear-splitting screech as the blast surged through him, white light exploding from his mouth, his many eyes, and between the scales of his chitinous armour.

Mad with rage and pain, Sin convulsed his serpentine body to throw Kobie off his back. Ramuh swept down to catch the Angel in his hand before he hit the ground, but then Sin turned towards them, threw off the attacks from Tritoch and Leviathan, and opened his fanged mouth to blast a great ball of energy towards them. Ramuh raised his staff in defence but the attack was too powerful even for him, smashing aside his Dispel. As Kobie looked on in horror, Sonya saw the energy ball bearing down on them and thrust her hand towards Ramuh and Kobie, throwing up a shimmering Shield spell that added to Ramuh’s and repelled the blast. Though they disappeared for a second behind the blinding white fireball, they emerged unharmed when it dissipated.

Sin merely hissed in anger, fixing his wounded eyes on the four Aeons around him. The Sin-spawn drew in close about him to give a clear shot and suddenly he lashed out in all directions with searing beams of dark magic, ravening fire beams screaming towards the Angels. Sonya was now too weak to cast another Shield spell strong enough to repel them, and even though Tritoch immediately wheeled and went into a headlong dive to escape the attack, there were too many beams for even him to dodge. One struck the noble bird a glancing blow, sending him tumbling through the air and hazing him almost completely out of existence. Sonya, hit too and badly burnt, was thrown from his back and sent plummeting towards the ground far below.

Kobie screamed denial <ooc - it seemed too silly to write "Nooooooooo!"> and leapt off Ramuh’s hand, slipping into Timeshift so he could fall faster and intercept her. He vanished into the crisscrossing energy beams as he fell. Ramuh remained and raised his staff to counter Sin’s attacks, blasting one aside with a lightning bolt, Dispelling another and deflecting a third off the shaft of his staff, but a fourth hit him square in the chest, sending the Aeon flying back and slamming him into the ground. A fountain of earth was ripped up as Ramuh drove a trench in the Calm Lands with the violence of his impact. Leviathan too was hit and knocked from the air, Fariel and Tanis sent sprawling as the great serpent was flung into the ground in a writhing mass.

The smoke cleared to leave Sin looming darkly in the air with his three defeated opponents on the ground below him. Ramuh lay in a muddy crater, stunned by the force of Sin’s attack, his staff lying several metres from his hand while his other hand was clenched over his stomach, the Aeon’s whole outline shimmering as he fought not to return to the Farplane. A badly hurt Tritoch moved feebly with one wing broken, the once-beautiful bird now dishevelled and helpless at Sin’s feet. Fariel, next to a contorted Leviathan, coughed and managed to pick herself up on her elbows, her angelic wings matted and bloodstained, stunned at how the battle had been going so well and how suddenly Sin had crippled their Aeons. Tanis lay unmoving next to her, and there was no sign of Sonya or Kobie.

Sin, though badly wounded himself, turned his many eyes downward upon his beaten foes and roared his victory. He failed to notice something bearing down on him from behind like a thunderbolt.

One of the First Aeons had survived the attack unscathed.

<ooc - okay, firstly yeah I have kinda frakked us over there but I was trying to move the story along, not prevent you guys from having your fun - if you still have something you wanted to write for the Aeon battle by all means post it up anyway and I’ll fix the order later. And secondly it’s nothing against you As that I’ve just panned Leviathan - I just thought that since it was Diablos abandoning the fight last time that caused the First Aeons to lose (they were winning before, if you remember) it would be appropriate that he should save the day this time round. The fact that we’re all crippled also makes it easier for Sin to do a runner - straight into Yuna and his ultimate doom - without us being able to pursue. So Sean, go kick ass, and As if you want Leviathan to do some more ass-kicking before being beaten down post it up and I’ll add it in. And if any of you REALLY don’t like the way this post goes I can always remove it and we’ll rework the ending  >

(as will be said in the second AA2 it was actually the battle against Penance that Diablos abandoned, the elfs changed the legends for an excuse to have the angels fight Sin, but thats not important atm)

Neji was fighting hoards of Sin Spawn when the Angels mighty combined attack struck Sin with outstanding force. Neji smiled then returned to holding off Sin Spawn, when suddenly he felt a strong force coming towards him, swiftly he turned around to see a massive bolt of dark magic speed towards.

"Diablos, seperate," he said quickly and the blast travelled harmlessly between them. Two more blasts rocketed towards them, Neji drifted back quickly and the energy followed him downward, the instanst his feet touched the ground, he sprang up the allow the blast to rocket into the ground. Diablos instead dived back using the Sin Spawn as meat sheilds, thus killing to birds with one stone. There threat over Neji gazed towards the other Angels battles above but to his horror saw they no longer floated arond Sin, instead all three Aeons had crashed into the ground, being too big to avoid the many blasts of magic aimed at them.

"Neji I think we are all that is left," Diablos said while flying closer to Neji

"I hope not,"

"lightning Edge?"

"To risky,"

"Then what can we do? We have no other means of fighting him,"

"I'll figure something out," Neji said with a smile

"I hope you know what you're doing," Diablos said as he slowly merged with Neji

Neji loosed up, while Sin let out a triumphant roar. A wicked smile appeared on Nejis face and he bolted towards Sin.

"It's not over yet Sin!" He yelled has closed in on him, Neji wiped his arm back gripping his sword, slashed up at Sin in a verticle flash, striking the beast under what Neji thinks is his chin. Sin bearly moved yet felt the pain of the attack, Neji now level with Sins mouth and began to furiously slash in all possible Angles, Sin opened his mouth and let rip a huge blast, yet the quick thinking Neji rocketed through the whole he had made perviously to envade the attack.

Neji wiped the sweat from his brow before continuing his assualt. He dived down and rammed both Swords deep into Sins head just above the eyes, Sin yelled in pain as the massive broke through his armor and continued to drill deep into his head. In an attempt to shake Neji off, Sin unleashed a powerful shock wave, Neji held on to his swords tight and push against Sins force until eventually even they were thrown out of his head, and Neji was flung back.  Neji regained his balance just infront of Sins mouth, but his mouth opened and leaving Neji no time to react a powerful blast rumbled from its mouth and scored a clean hit on Neji, throwing him back and causing him to drop his swords. As Neji fell his power completely escaped him, slowly his wings faded away to nothing, and all traces of Diablos power vanished from his skin and eyes.  In one last show of determination Neji launched a demon ball at Sin as he fell, but a surving Sin Spawn, intending on attacking Neji acidently took the attack and descintegrated into nothing. Neji smiled before crashing into the ground. Followed closely behind by his swords which stuck into the ground on both sides of Neji. Neji using his swords to lever himself up did so, but all attempts to call forth more power faded and Neji crashed down to one knee, not allowing Sin see him on his back, he used to swords stuck in the ground to keep himself up. He looked to see the last of the Sin spawn, close in on all Angels.

(There Neji has had his fun, and don't worry about the last of the Sin Spawn, Everyone on the airship will deal with them.)

Kobie hurtled downwards through the storm frozen in time around him, his heartbeat thundering in slow motion in his ears. Below him Sonya twirled slowly downwards like a windblown leaf, her clothes and skin torn, unconscious. As he fell towards her he reached out and grabbed her hand, pulling her into the Timeshift with him. As the air around them rippled, wind drifting sluggishly around them, her eyes opened, focusing on him. She looked around in wonder at the scene around them as they continued to fall slowly downwards, Sin’s lethal energy bolts hovering like a dazzling light show above them. Kobie smiled at her reassuringly and shifted position ready to cast a lightning bolt downwards and slow their descent to a safe speed when the Timeshift ended, when a slowly increasing light behind them made him turn his head.

The two Angels’ eyes opened wide in fear as they saw the energy bolt sweeping slowly but inexorably towards them, only a few metres away, no way they could dodge it. Already Kobie could begin to feel its blazing heat beginning to creep across his skin. As the world around them began to ripple, the end of the Timeshift imminent, Kobie and Sonya turned to look at each other so their eyes met. Sonya was crying. Kobie drew her in close, one arm around her waist tight, the other cradling her head against his shoulder so she wouldn’t have to see the end approaching. Through a swimming haze he saw the beam draw closer and closer, its light slowly expanding until it filled his entire view. He closed his eyes and turned away, cuddling into Sonya for one last, long moment in time.

* * *

Neji and Fariel looked up at Sin writhing in the air above them, waiting for the end. But something was wrong - thrashing around and screeching in the pain Neji’s attacks had caused him, Sin was twisting away from them and beginning to glide away North.

“Sin! Come back you bastard!” Fariel shouted uselessly after the retreating monster, hurling a Wateraga up towards him with the last of her strength. The weakly-cast spell faltered and fell to earth before it even reached Sin, who was already too far away, “Come back and finish me you frakking coward! Like you did my parents!”

She fell to her knees, hot tears of futile rage running down her face.

Let him go Fariel, she heard Leviathan’s voice say weakly inside her head, It’s over.

Fariel looked up at the giant monster slipping away and saw that he was heading towards an airship gliding into the Calm Lands from the direction of the Zanarkand Ruins, a silver speck on the horizon. That would be Summoner Yuna and her Guardians. So their quest had been in vain then - Yuna would summon the Final Aeon against Sin only for him to be reincarnated once again by the power of his own executioner ten years later.

“So we have failed,” Neji said numbly beside her, the Set sword dragging heavily from his tired arm, and they could do nothing but watch the great tragedy of the Summoners play itself out once again on the horizon, before their very eyes.

Around them the Sin-spawn circled closer, ready to deliver the final blow.

(occ - RANDOM SPAM!!! XD LOL Yeah, i don't know)

"Damn it!" Fariel cursed punching the ground angrily. "Damn, damn, damn." She continued. Neji knelt down beside her and managed a crooked smile, she glared at him.

"We failed this time, but in ten years we'll have another chance." Tanis spoke from where he laid behind them, they both turned to look at him as he sat up weakly.

Fariel grunted in defeat, her attention darted to Leviathan who laid scilently to the side of them, "Leviathan, you look as bad as i feel." She smiled, crawling to the aeon's side and placing a hand on his scaly skin.

I must look pretty bad then.

"Go, there's nothing else we can do." Fariel resigned, the aeon nodded it's head slightly and dissipated into a hail of pyraflies. One danced around her hand before flying away into the sky, which drew her attention to the decending sin spawn. "I may not have gotten sin, but the least I can do is kill you!" She growled, drawing her wave swords, they felt heavier then usual, the realisation of her wounds and fatigue were beginging to show.

The calm lands were torn up, a complete mess from their previous peaceful glory. Tanis knelt by Fariel's side and smiled, "Even in defeat your still as determind as ever." He commented.

"We aren't defeated yet. We still have our lives, and each other. Which is more then i can say i had the last time i fought with Sin." She looked at Neji and then back to Tanis, she didn't know where Kobie and Sonya where, they were seperated after sin's attack, but she knew they were alive somewhere in the calm lands.

"Let's kill these damned spawn, we can still catch sin before he reaches Yuna..."

<ooc - good grief, I think I've done more writing in the past 24 hours than in weeks...>

The Timeshift ended, and Kobie and Sonya, still holding each other close, fell directly into the path of the beam, which engulfed them in a split-second. But at the moment of contact a new, blue-white light flared bright, coming from both Angels and yet from neither, and formed a shimmering sphere around them. Sin’s energy beam flared and died as it detonated harmlessly against it, and out of the expanding fireball fell Kobie and Sonya, alive.

Still wondering what had just happened, Kobie was able to gather just enough of his wits to blast a powerful lightning bolt downwards from his Atellian bracer and slow their descent before they slammed into the ground. They still landed heavily and his legs buckled under him; carrying Sonya protectively he twisted to let her fall on top of him to minimise the impact on her, cushioning her fall with his body. He picked himself up slowly, helping Sonya to stand shakily beside him.

* * *

“Time to die you Sin-spawn bastards!” Fariel yelled in defiance as she, Tanis and Neji stood to face this last threat. A Sin-spawn landed before them, spreading its bladed wings menacingly. Tanis stepped forward, his katana raised for a blow, but it never fell.

With a shriek the Sin-spawn disintegrated into Pyraflies as it was riddled with bullets from above. The three Angels looked round as bullets ripped up the already-ruined Calm Lands, scything down the Sin-spawn with lethal efficiency. The Highwind loomed above them, riflemen and machine-gunners providing covering fire from its deck while assault teams abseiled down on ropes and winch-operated ladders, fanning out to form a defensive perimeter round the three.

“Melina!” Neji shouted in delight, running forward and scooping his lover up in his arms as she leapt down from the airship.

“Oh Neji, you’re alright, thank the Aeons…”

Cid came striding over, resplendent in his golden armour, and clasped hands with Neji.

“You and your friends put up a hell of a fight there, my boy!” he said in congratulations, “Even if you didn’t destroy Sin you still gave him one hell of a beating.”

From across the scarred Calm Lands, two dishevelled figures came limping towards them.

“Feyd, Sonya, you guys alright?” Melina called as she recognised them, causing the group to turn and move to meet them. Kobie, who was supporting Sonya, took her arm from his shoulder and lowered her tenderly to the ground. Blood was running down over half of his face, but he waved Melina away as she tried to cast a Cure spell on him.

“Help Sonya first, she’s hurt worse than me and she’s too weak to cast a healing spell on herself.”

Fariel, Tanis and the others gathered round anxiously as Melina stooped over Sonya. Her green and gold elven clothes were torn in several places and there were multiple cuts and burns on her face and arms.

“Curaga,” Melina said, and a white halo surrounded Sonya before fading away again. Sonya groaned and sat up, the worst of her injuries healed. Kobie supported her back tenderly.

“What happened?” he asked.

“Sin broke off the fight to go and intercept Summoner Yuna coming down from the North,” Cid explained, “If we hurry we can catch him first.”

“Okay, one second,” Sonya said as the crew began to file quickly back into the airship. She walked over to where Tritoch was still lying crippled out on the grassy plain. One of the great bird’s wings was twisted at an unnatural angle. She knelt and gently put a hand on the multicoloured feathers of Tritoch’s noble aquiline head. He turned one golden eye weakly towards her.

“I’m sorry Tritoch,” she whispered.

It was not your fault Sonya, the bird’s voice said inside her mind, But now I have to rest - I must return to the Farplane to heal.

Sonya nodded silently, and Tritoch’s soft feathers faded away beneath her fingers, the noble bird disappearing in a collection of winking Pyraflies. She felt a shadow fall across her and then a hand on her shoulder. It was Ramuh, now standing but leaning on his staff more heavily than usual, and, closer behind her, Kobie. She turned and hugged him.

“We’d better go.” he said. They started back towards the airship, when suddenly there was a heavy explosion. The ground heaved, a bright shockwave swept through the sky above them, and a piercing inhuman scream rent the air.

Fariel spun around and stared at the giant orange haze that was filling the sky in the wake of the shockwave that spanned out for miles, its origin, Fariel only dared to guess.

“No…she can’t have killed him already!” Fariel growled, spreading her painful tattered wings she leapt into the air and landed atop the airships highest peak to try and see more clearly.

At the epicentre of the haze was Yuna’s airship, surrounded by pyraflies and no sign of sin. “We’re too late.” She slumped to her knees and couldn’t help but smile, “10 years, in 10 years, Sin, you’ll be mine. And I’ll be even stronger then, so you better watch out.”

Landing less then gracefully beside the other angel’s she turned to face Sheana and the others that had made their way off the airship to admire the sin free sky again, just like ten years before. “I guess we have some time to kill before we face sin again.” Fariel smiled turning back to the angels.

“I guess we do.” A slight smile appeared on Kobie’s face.

(occ - We’re not exactly going to know she didn’t use the final aeon against sin until later when we find out that Sins actually dead, but we don’t need to put that in this one, we can just round up our characters say goodbye to each other and go our separate ways, in hope to band together in 10 years to try again right? But we all find out that Sins dead and we can do what we bloody well please ^^ SO yeah, I’m going to Kebel, where are you lot going?)

Suddenly there was a rustle of wind behind them. They turned to see a small tempest whirling down through the sky towards them, landing before them in a rainbow flash of magic. In a swirl of robes a tall, noble figure stepped towards them, flanked by several others. For a second he was hidden, silhouetted against the glare of the dissipating wind spell, then the newcomer’s face was revealed.

“Master Laconfir!” Sonya breathed as the Ellessar elf lord strode towards them with his sapphire-topped staff held easily in his hand, casting a faint blue glow across his face. His bodyguard followed, dressed in shimmering white robes with silver circlets on their foreheads and slender, leaf-shaped wave swords or finely-crafted elven bows slung across their backs. Silarion, Retala, Tyrion and Alariele were among them.

“Well fought, Avenging Angels,” Laconfir said in his calm, regal voice. He waved his staff towards them and the five Angels immediately felt fatigue and pain lift from them.

“Yeah right,” Fariel said bitterly, “We lost. Sin’ll be back in 10 years.”

And, she thought, doubt beginning to creep into her mind, what makes you think we’ll do any better next time around?

The amused smile that tugged at the corner of the elven High Priest’s mouth made her raise an eyebrow.

“Not this time he won’t,” the elf said with a smile, “The cycle has been broken.”

The Angels looked at him in confusion.

“Summoner Yuna defeated Sin without the Final Aeon, and so Sin has no power to regenerate himself with. He is vanquished for good.”

Sonya cast her mind back to the ruined temple in the Enndenti forest, and suddenly remembered the picture that had been painted above the Avenging Angels prophesy; Sin, pierced by a sword symbolising the Aeons, held by Summoner Yuna.

“The other half of the prophesy!” she whispered, “Yuna - the Saviour of Spira!”

“That is correct, Lady Sonya.”

“Now wait a frakking minute!” Fairel piped up, “Yuna can’t have defeated Sin without the Final Aeon, that’s impossible! And if she’s the one who’s supposed to save Spira what the frakking Farplane have we been through all this for?”

One or two of the elves frowned at the way she was addressing Laconfir, but the High Priest seemed untroubled.

“You’re partly correct, Lady Fariel. Yuna would not have been able to defeat Sin without him being seriously weakened first.”

Kobie put his hands behind his head, the pieces of the prophesy all now falling into place.

“So we were never meant to destroy Sin,” he said slowly.

“But Yuna could not have defeated him without us.” Neji finished. Laconfir confirmed with a nod.

“Even we elves were unsure of the prophecy’s true meaning until now. The skein of fate is ever twisted and difficult even for us to foretell. It is a great shame that the heroic part you have played in this tale must remain secret.”

Fariel smiled wryly.

“So you’re telling me not only am I never going to get another chance to avenge my parents on Sin, Summoner bloody Yuna’s going to get all the credit for killing him?”

“You have more than avenged your parents’ deaths, Lady Fariel - now let them rest in peace. And besides, all those who played a part in this tale will know the truth, and your deeds will not go unsung in the legends of the elves. Perhaps when we are ready to reveal ourselves to the world once more, your story also can be told.”

“Pfft. Don’t think I could handle the publicity anyway,” Fariel said with a smile.

Laconfir inclined his head, and turned to two figures who were standing unmoving at the edge of the circle - Laguna and Tanis.

(occ - Just a random post from me, I think that's my last part to this one. After this she's just going to bugger off to Kebel with the four theives, dragging Laguna along too. Tanis will no doubt dissapear off the face of Spira without a trace and you guys will go off whereever and we can get the second one going! :D lol)

Laguna flinched as Laconfir looked Tanis and himself, “It seems you have redeemed yourself, Laguna.” He nodded to the elf who smothered a sigh of relief, “You may return with us to the forest.” Laconfir ****ed a brow as his sentence was cut short by Fariel who appeared by Laguna’s side and grabbed his shoulder.

“Uh, nah I don’t think so. This idiot here is coming with me.”

“With you, Lady Fariel?”

“I owe him one.” She smiled, though she was angry about the news she had just been delivered by the elves she managed to suppress it.

Laconfir nodded and glanced at Tanis, and then to the angels each in turn, Sonya approached him with Feyd and started asking questions about Yuna and the prophecy while the other elves moved forwards to congratulate the angels.

Fariel sat down and sighed, Laguna knelt beside her and grinned childishly, “You owe me one?” He smiled but paused as Silarion knelt down in front of them both.

“Dare I ask about the wings?” She smiled.

Fariel managed to smile, “Can you do me a favour and tell me that the old man was joking about Sin being dead, dead?”

Silarion laughed at Laconfir being referred to as the ‘old man’ and patted her shoulder, “My apologies Fariel, but he’s telling the truth.”

Tanis stood silently watching Fariel and the two elves talk beside him, he took a step back promptly as Sheana, Kale, Faber and Rico came running towards Fariel, he smiled.

“Are you okay, Fariel?” Sheana queried.

“Been better. Though it turns out that I’m still alive and Sin isn’t, so how about you start telling me more about Kebel?”

<ooc - if Squall's back he can decide Tanis' fate, coz if I remember right the elves were going to reconsider his case about using life-drain if he helped defeat Sin...or something like that...it's back on page 4 or 5...

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing Fari's reaction when she discovers she can't get rid of her wings because her bracer's damaged LOL>

As Fariel drifted off to talk with her fellow thieves and the elves conferred among themselves, the sun had begun to sink behind the western horizon. Out on the Calm Lands, small flocks of chocobo were walking around and grazing <ooc - hang on, are chocobo herbivores or carnivores…?> - already things seemed to be renewing themselves and returning to normality. Kobie stood on a slight rise with his arm round Sonya, looking out at the brilliant sight of the sun setting a deep fiery red beneath a now-clear purple sky - a sight to rival the beauty of the Moonflow at night. He turned Sonya’s head by gently touching her cheek and kissed her. It was finally over.

They looked up and smiled at Neji and Melina who were walking towards them, Neji with his hand gently caressing Melina’s stomach, protecting his unborn son.

“So what do we do now?” Sonya asked them.

“Well,” Neji began, “From what I got out of Tromell in Guadosalam, the Maesters’ dominion has collapsed after Yuna spread the truth about Yevon and Sin, so the religion that made you outlaws is gone and you’re both free people.”

“Everything’s going to change now,” Melina put in, “The Crusaders are disbanding, the Guado have repented their following of Seymour, even the Custodians are seeking redemption now their false god has been destroyed. Much has changed and many have died, but Spira is finally a free world again, and it’s already renewing itself.”

Kobie and Sonya nodded.

“Where were you planning on going?” Neji asked, “We can take you wherever you want on the Highwind.”

Kobie nodded again.

“Yes, it’ll be good to spend a little longer together before we go our separate ways. As for where we’re going, well…Sonya, you’ve been following me since I met you on the beach outside Luca - I think it’s time you got to take the lead.”

Sonya smiled.

“I think I want to go to Guadosalam.”

“Guadosalam?”

Sonya shrugged, “Tritoch seems very insistent about it. But he won’t tell me why.”

Kobie smiled broadly.

“Guadosalam it is, then. And you, Neji, are you going back to sailing the seas - well, the skies?”

Neji looked fondly at the grounded Highwind that lay behind them, the crew milling about outside making repairs or relaxing.

“I don’t think so, not for a while. I have a bigger responsibility now.” he kissed Melina, and touched her stomach again, “I think I will settle down in the Ellessar woods with the elves for a while. I don’t want my son making the same mistake I did - I want him to learn from the elves how to control the power that’s in his blood right from the start.”

They were interrupted by the sound of footsteps against soft grass approaching from behind them, and the four turned to see Zell walking towards them.

“How are you feeling, Zell?” Melina asked kindly.

“Better, thank you,” Zell replied, grinning apologetically, “I’m afraid I didn’t fare too well against that Dark Crusader.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Sonya said earnestly, “It was very brave of you to help me battle that Dark Aeon.”

Zell reacted to the compliment with an embarrassed smile.

“Captain Neji, sir?” he asked, “Could I ask you something, in private?”

<ooc - that’s him asking Neji to train him>

Looking bemused, Neji nodded, and the three others obligingly headed back down towards the airship to give them privacy. As they passed Cid, who was comforting Gau with bracing words about how his father Chouji had given his life to save others, Kobie spotted Fariel still talking with Sheena and the others, still with her white-feathered wings protruding from the back of her ragged top.

“Hey Fari!” he shouted across to her, “You can lose the wings now.”

“Yeah Fari,” Rico joined in, “We all know you ain’t no angel.”

Faber cuffed him over the head.

Fariel grinned and closed her eyes as if concentrating hard. Nothing happened.

“What gives, Fari?” Sheena asked with a quizzical look.

“I can’t.”

“Whaddaya mean, ya can’t?”

Fariel tried shapeshifting into wolf form, then back into human, but once again the wings reappeared. Then she looked down at the crack in her silver bracer, and remembered Dark Ixion's attack that had fractured it.

“Oh frak…”

<ooc - okay, your posts guys ;) then I’m afraid it’s onto the emotional bit where Tanis flies away to the Farplane :( >

"Captain...please train me," Zell pleaded, dropping on one knee

Neji smiled "What is it with people and bowing before me," he laughed "Zell get up,"

Cid came up from behind Neji laughing, "get used to it Neji, thats part of the job being captain," he said

"Zell, I would gladly train you, but it won't be easy I'm gonna push you beyond any normal limit,"

Zell nodded a worried expresion on his face, "oh crap what have I gotten myself into," he thought.

Neji turned around to address his crew but as he turned around he saw they had all already gotten themselfs in a disciplined line with the help of the ex Dark Crusaders Neji smiled greatly his rabble of pirates were now like an army of disciplined vetrens, he also noticed his numbers had increased, he whipsered to Cid, "did we always have this many?"

"More Dark Crusaders have joined our ranks while you were fighting Sin, we saw them heading over to the battle, we picked them up and they sweared alligance,"

"Ok then Crew! the threat to Spira is over, you can all go home!" yet none moved

Retala approached Neji a smile on his face, "Don't worry Neji, the High Priest saids its alrite for them to stay in our lands, don't forget most of our households and shops are empty plus perhaps the survival of our race relies on us intergrating with our closest cousins,"

Neji sighed "We're gonna need another ship,"

(I felt like adding a little extra to the end, you know like what we are all doing 5 years on (seemed like a good timeskip since the next one will be 10 years after that) it reveals some characters who will be in the sequel I also think it would be fitting to see us all in peace quite abit on from the battle)

Five years later

The peaceful Ellessar woods sprang to life with the sound of clashing fists, Neji sat on a rock observing a fight between Retala and a young boy Melina sitting next to him her arms wrapped round his, the boy charged fist clenched and lept at the elf, but the quick Retala drifted back and swatted away the aggressive attack, the boy dwarfed by the tall elf lept into the air with inhuman prowes and attempted a high kick directed towards the face of Retala, but once again Retala showing his elf skills grabbed the boy by the ancles and threw him to the ground, using his hands to break his fall the boy pushed himself up and flipped to land on his feet his back now turned to elf, backflipping the boy attempted to plant his toe into the elfs shoulder but his hit missed and he landed on the ground, he sprang up once again throwing blind punches until he eventually tripped him on his back, Retala placed his foot on his chest to keep him on the ground.

"Feet boy think about you're feet," Neji called out, "A warrior must learn balance. It is not enough to have a quick eye and good strength - to fall is to die," the boy nodded and with help from Retala got to his feet for another spar. "that goes for you also Zell," Neji said turning to the worn out Al'bed lying on the grass gasping for breath.

"On you're feet and try again, come on Zell a seven year old is doing better than you," Neji laughed

Zell sat up, "Well not all of us are born with demon blood, besides why am I doing these close combat exercises,"

"Indeed Zell, you're reactions are far above par and you're skill with ranged weapons is far better than mine, but you skills in close quarters is poor, what if the enemy gets close enough to you? you are sure to lose,"

Zell slowly got to his feet, wooden sword in hand, three ex dark crusaders closed in around him, all sporting wooded swords, together they charged.

"Captain Neji," a familer voice said from behind the trees, walking into the light came Cid.

"Captain Cid of the Choiji, reporting in sir, deliveriy to Al'bed new home successful,"

"Granda Cid!," Keiji yelled as he ran up to Cid, Cid knelt down to embrace to child and caught the young boy, "how was you're adventure this time,"

"Oh I'll tell you about it later my boy, but now I must talk to you're father," Keiji smiled and dropped from his named Grandfathers arms and ran to his mother.

Neji rose from his seat and began to talk to cid at the edge of the clearing, Zell continued his desperate fight against the three skilled swordsmen and Retala kneeling down to Keiji was whispering hints of battle in his ear.

Melina watched with delight. This was peace the way she wanted it, Neji the father of her child and surronded by friends who were more like family, Melina pulled out a picture, it was taken four years after the defeat of Sin at Keijis 4th birthday, in the middle Tanis a cool half smile on his face to the right was Neji carring the hyper active child in his arm, both had bright smiles on there faces, to the right of Neji was Melina hugging into Neji's available arm, to the left of Tanis was another mother, father and her child, Sonya stood closest to Tanis smiling as she leaned into Kobie, Kobie stood carrying his daughter in both arms, he smiled not at the camera but he cast his proud smile over his daughter who looked at the camera with a cheeky smile on her face, kneeling down below Tanis was Fariel a wicked yet cheeky smile beaming on her face, Zell, Cid and Retala stood around Neji and Melina for they had all became closer over the years. This was peace and she wanted things to stay to way they were forever.

Melinas other hand rested on his head, roughing up his blonde hair, showing that she carried for the boy like a mother.

“Oh frak?” Kale laughed, “That’s it?” He added.

“Leviathan, please throw me a bone here.” Fariel smiled at Kale, there was a slight pause before there was a reply.

It seems that your wings, having been out when Ixion cracked your bracer, are now a part of your true body. Though I am at a loss in explaining how a small crack like that could affect you so, my advice would be not to crack it again.

“Well that kinda sucks. Though I suppose having wings can be an advantage in our line of work.” Fariel laughed dryly. “I’d like to see a crusader try and catch me if I fly away instead of run!”

They all paused and watched as Tanis walked away without another word, Fariel managed to smile, come back soon, yeah?

Neji too announced his leave, and he and his men climbed aboard the Highwind, the elves said goodbye to Fariel and her group and then boarded as well.

“Hey Feyd!” Fariel yelled, Kobie holding Sonya’s hand as they walked towards the ship turned to look at her, surprised at the use of his first name, “I’ll see you two soon, yeah?”

“Of course!” Was the cheery reply from Sonya.

“Shall we go?” Sheana suggested, Fariel laughed and nodded, the group, Laguna as well, walked away from the Highwind and it’s occupants towards Mt Gagazet.

Five years later (just cause Sean did it and I thought it would be a good laugh)

Perched a top the arch in Luca that framed the stairs leading to the Mi’ihen Highroad, Fariel crossed her arms and ****ed a brow. She wore a black sleeveless halter neck, her wings folded in behind her, the open back of her top not getting in the way of them. Belts held her armoury of weapons, her daggers and wave swords sat proudly where they always had, her weapons choice hadn’t changed over the years of machina.
Two young men flanked her sides, both armed with a bow, quiver and set of daggers, all in the traditional design of Kebel (I’ll expand on that later) And a young wolf sat by her feet.

Their position was obvious but no one noticed their presence, the market below was crowded with people all facing away from them watching the public promotion of a Captain to General of The Guard. “Larek Atlen…This could be somewhat interesting.” Fariel smiled.

“Do you know him?” The young man on her right asked.

“Yes, I was in the Crusaders with him.”

“Is he a threat?” The other one asked.

“Not anymore.” Fariel grinned, the wolf beside her looked up at her and whined, “Not yet Whisper. We’ll go see him tonight.”

<ooc - Tanis’ epilogue will appear as appropriate depending on what Squall wants, but for now here’s Feyd and Sonya’s>

“Well, here we are,” Zell commented from the navigation console as the Highwind drifted to a halt, the deserted city of Guadosalam looming gaunt and derelict a few miles ahead. Kobie, Sonya and Neji made their way to the outer deck as a rope ladder was automatically lowered from it for them. Sonya and Kobie had changed out of their travelling clothes and stowed their weapons away, having no need for them for the first time in weeks. Kobie wore plain clothes under his black overcoat, and Sonya wore a pretty elvish dress that had been made for her by Alariele.

“I guess this is where we go our separate ways then,” Neji said, clasping hands with Kobie.

“For a little while,” Kobie nodded.

“Though don’t think we’re not going to see you again soon,” Sonya put in, standing on tiptoe to plant a goodbye kiss on the tall, heavily built man’s cheek, “We’re going to settle down somewhere near the Ellessar Woods so we can come and see you and the elves.”

“I should hope so,” Neji said, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth, “You will be my son’s godparents after all. If you see Fariel first, tell her she’s welcome to visit - though warn her I’m not going to put up with any of her thieving or shapeshifting antics.”

Kobie laughed.

“We will.”

“See you, Neji,” Sonya added, “Say goodbye to Melina and Cid and everyone for us.”

Neji nodded and stepped aside politely to let them get to the rope ladder. But with a smile Sonya took Kobie’s hand and they jumped together over the railing, surfing down a slipstream of ice she had summoned to safely reach the ground.

Neji laughed as the ice dissolved and the whine of the Highwind’s idling engines rose to a roar as it swung round to head back north.

“Now you’re just showing off!”

Kobie and Sonya stood and waved as the Highwind faded swiftly into the distance. Then they turned and began walking across the Thunder Plains towards Guadosalam. The thunder overhead rumbled fiercely, and suddenly it began to rain. Kobie pulled off his black overcoat and put it round Sonya’s shoulders, while Sonya just smiled and held up one hand to cast a Nullwater in a protective umbrella over their heads. Laughing, they huddled together under the water-repelling spell and ran towards Guadosalam.

* * *

Corwin and Cassandria Merek stood at the entrance to the Farplane in Guadosalam, searching for one face among so many, but in vain. No matter how hard they had tried, they had been unable to call forth the spirit of their daughter.

“It’s no good, Cassie,” Corwin said numbly, “She’s not here.”

They had been heartbroken when their daughter had been torn away from them by the racist Yevonites for a crime she hadn’t committed, but the thought of her not being given a Sending after her unjust execution was too much. Cassandria collapsed against her husband’s shoulder and sobbed.

The sound of footsteps behind them made them turn. They were angry at the intrusion, but when Cassandria wiped the tears from her eyes and saw who it was the outburst died on her lips.

Before her stood a tall man in a black three-quarter-length jacket, with dark hair and a serious face softened by the warm expression he directed towards his companion - a beautiful young woman in a shimmering white dress, her wavy honey-coloured hair arrayed about her shoulders. She wore a dumbstruck expression that matched Cassandria’s as she slowly stepped away from the tall man and walked towards her. The girl’s face was one Cassandria loved and knew as well as her husband’s, though with one major difference. As if in a dream, Cassandria reached out and touched her face.

“You’re…real?” she whispered, “You’re not…?”

The girl nodded, tears welling in her eyes.

“But…where’s your Al’bed mask…? Is it really you?”

Sonya nodded and burst into tears. Her mother and father rushed forward and caught her in their arms.

<ooc - *wipes away a tear* LOL I can’t think of a “five years later” bit right now, plus I need to go to bed LOL I'll finish it later...>

Tanis looked around at his companions. He had been through so much with them... but his time with them was finally up.

Tanis took a step forward, "My friends it's time for me to depart."

Fariel began to object but Tanis cut her off.

"No Fariel. I must return with the elves and stand my trial. I have avoided it for too long."

"But Tanis," interjects Kobie " what happens if they find you guilty?"

Tanis took a step forward and whispered in his ear. "My friend, i have learned much from all of you...i don't think that i'll be hanging around if i am found guilty. Nor even if i am not! Do not worry i shall be fine. Just make sure that all of you stay safe."

Tanis took a step back.

"My friends...goodbye."

And before anyone could say a word. Tanis had rushed into the bushes, wounds and all.

<ooc - okay, got an idea - since AA2 starts with the storm heralding Penance’s return and my first post was going to be set a few years earlier I’ll just edit it slightly and use it to round off the first story>

Feyd Kobie stood leaning against an apple tree in full spring blossom that stood in the centre of the garden, subconsciously twisting the wedding ring on his left hand and keeping a fond eye on his now three-year-old daughter who was exploring the shrubs nearby. It was a warm afternoon in Sonya’s home town near Bevelle, and the windows of their modest house and that of Sonya’s parents across the street stood open to let in the cool breeze. A smile crept up his face as he watched his daughter stop and kneel down next to something on the grass. Now in his late twenties, five years of peaceful living had wrought quite a change on his features - gone was the grim, careworn look of a haunted man, to be replaced by the simple, calm happiness of one who has found contentment in home, friends and family. He stepped away from the tree and stooped down to the level of his daughter.

“What’ve you found, Eevee?”

Eevee looked up, turning bright, inquisitive blue eyes - just like her mother’s - towards him as she pointed to a crippled butterfly that was fluttering helplessly around on the lawn, one wing torn. Before Feyd could say anything she cupped her hands around it and there was a momentary flash of blue light. When she opened her hands, the butterfly immediately took off and flew away, its wings as good as new.

“Wow, did you just do that?” Feyd said in praise, but with genuine surprise in his voice.

Eevee looked up at him, pushing her hair behind her ear.

“It was hurt,” she said simply, “So I made it better.”

They turned as Sonya Kobie came walking out of the house. She still had the glow of youth about her and the same pretty smile.

“Hello sweetheart,” Feyd said, kissing her, “You’ll never guess what our little girl just did.”

“What?” Sonya asked, kneeling down next to them and giving her daughter a fond look.

“She just used a healing spell on a butterfly, didn’t you Eevee?”

“Really?” Sonya said in amazement. Eevee smiled innocently back at her.

Their Aeons had gradually faded away from their conscious minds over the years since Sin’s defeat, returning occasionally to speak with them in their dreams, but Sonya felt the familiar presence of the Balance Bird Tritoch touch her mind then.

Your daughter has great potential, Angel, just as you had, and realised. Mine and Ramuh’s power reside within her.

Sonya smiled, picking her daughter up and hugging her. Eevee giggled happily.

“High Priest Laconfir will want to hear about this,” she said cheerfully to Feyd.

“I imagine uncle Neji and auntie Melina will as well,” he replied, “Come on, I’ll start packing our things.”
