RE: Avenging Angels 2 - Destinys Call

Set tucked his wings in and crossed his arms appearing to be floating before before the mighty Shadow.

"****y eh? Lets give him a volly,"

"Aye aye sir, locked on now," a crew man shouted

"Fire!" Gau roared his voice getting drowned out by the sound many missle launching, missle swirled in the air closing in on Set who stood unmoving, the many missles pounded into the demon in an overwhelming firery explosion.

"Direct hit!" Gau shouted flicking his nose with a smile. "So Cid how many pieces did we blow him into?" Gau laughed.

"Gau you are getting too ahead of yourself,"

"Come on how could he survive that?"

"Gau, look," Gau looked out the main window as the smoke settled, standing unharmed amougst the smoke behind a fading black wall stood Set completely unharmed arms still crossed.

"What! fire another volly! He will not make a fool of me!"

"Gau!" Cid yelled, "Think straight boy!"

"I will get him this time! Now fire the missles,"

"Aye captain," a crew man groaned, the shadow unleashed another powerful volly of missles this time Set unfolded his arms and spread his wings charging straight to the missles. Set masterfully and a smoothly flew every missle making a mockery of Gau.

"Why you! Another volly go! go! go!"

"Gau! Crew ignore that order!"

"Why?! I'm the captain! Not you I make the dissisions,"

"Think Gau, do you really wish to waste out last volly?" Gau went silent, "You tried it first time fair enough and it didn't work, but then you tired it a second time when he so easily evaded the first time and now you want to try it a third time?"

"I'm sorry, my overconfidence led to me getting angry,"

"Ah so now you see where you went wrong, but its too late, you need to see these things before hand, as captain you must always remain calm and think before acting,"

"Your right I'm sorry,"

"Now what will you do?"

"We need to find a weakness in the demon, wait for an opening,"

"Then go for it,"

"Alrite, Everyone! engage the enemy using the main guns conserve ammunition and charge up the mana gun just incase,"

"Captain!"

"Open all gun ports, focus all fire on the enemy in front of us,"

"Incoming sir, looks like dark dragon bullet,"

"Take Evasive action, then counter attack,"

(Its all coming to me slowly, this will do for now tho will finish when i can)

<ooc - Same :P Expect me to edit and add to this post>

A brief flash of purple lightning illuminated the Angels as they soared away from Bevelle towards the Calm Lands. Even there the storm continued unabated, the spells that Penance was weaving from his castle playing havoc with the weather patterns. Ice-cold rain lashed down on them in stinging droplets, and the clouds darkened from grey to a sickly red as they flew deeper into the corrupted Calm Lands.

"Nearly there!" Fariel yelled from the front of their small V-formation, pointing towards the castle in the distance.

"Thank frak!" Zell muttered from his awkward position hanging on to Alia, being the only one of the group without wings of his own.  He temporarily took the protective arm away from his face and braved the stinging rain to look down.

"Bloody Farplane..." he cursed as he processed what he was seeing.

Penance's stronghold there was now completed, the walls now sheer impenetrable faces of forbidding black stone. The ground was black and scorched for some distance around, as if the castle itself was leeching the life out of the Calm Lands. A moat of purple flames leapt and crackled around the fortress perimeter, hissing and spitting in the rain, and ghostly comets of magenta fire with leering demonic faces circled the towers, drifting eerily in and out through the walls. The eye of the great storm roiled above the castle, purple lightning flickering down again and again upon its tall towers with their frowning battlements and leering obsidian gargoyles. Even amidst the din of thunder and the roaring fire, the Angels could hear disembodied voices whispering at the edge of perception, scratching at their minds like knives.

"Like a small piece of the demon world sitting right in the middle of the Calm Lands," Neji growled, "This shouldn't be happening..."

Eevee remained silent, fighting the fear that was rising up in her stomach. The last time she had been here, she had been forced to watch helplessly as her parents were dragged into the timeless prison of the Void. She reached inside her jacket and put her hand against the Oathkeeper under her top, so that the comfortingly solid and warm metal pressed reassuringly against her skin.

The Angels wheeled over and dived, skimming low over the tortured landscape on their final approach. Immediately, the wall of fire surrounding the castle guttered and roared. Out of the flames stepped heavily-armed demons, striding through the raging inferno without flinching. Rank after rank appeared, levelling their weapons in unison as they marched to bar the Angels' path.

Set flew back from the airship his arm glowing with demonic energy and with one mighty thrust of his arm unleashed an oversized Dark Dragon Bullet. The shadow moved swiftly in the air in response raising slightly and allow the attack to pass under.

"Fire now!" Gau shouted and the shadow replied with a all mighty hail of bullets from every gun port each heading to a single target Set, however although accrate the bullets Ricocheted harmlessly off the mighty demons scales in show of power Set targeted his charge through the bullets.

"He's coming this way captain! And out bullets won't even stall him!" a crew man shouted in a panic.

"Electric pulse," Gau said calmly confident in the ships powers, Cid gave Gau a convincing smile on how calm he remained when facing an enemy like none other. The shadow let loose an invisible pulse of electicity which pounded into
et however the might demon brock through the pulse with ease and with an outstreched clawed hand latched onto the airship his mighty claws breaking through the solid hull paying no attention to the electified hull.

"He's on the ship!"

"Our electified hull is having no effect on him!"

"Calm down everyone!" Gau shouted, "Turn up the juice! Gradually."

Outside the Shadow the determind Set held onto the airship tightly as gradually the volts of electiricty passing through him got more and more intense, so much so the ship started to spark and Set started to smoke he grimiced from the pain and eventually with an angry roared released his grip flying away from the airship. The shadow crew shouted in triumph and a smile crept on Gau face.

"He won't try that again," Gau smiled

"Captain Mana gun is charged and ready,"

"Then fire, While its open!"

Below the ship a hatch opened and slowly emerging hanged the weapon which is trademark to all of Neji's ship the mighty Al'bed Mana Cannon, the oversized origanal version of the mana gun. The Gun glowed with many lights and a dome of powerful energy started to emerge before with a mighty rubble and scream a great beam shot out the gun aimed straight for Set, immediatly realizing the power Set made a last minute dodge propelling himself to side using demonic energy, with a roar and a pulse of energy he charged towards the airship coming at from the side his arms glowing readying a dark element explosion.

A victorius snarl crept on his face when suddely he froze as ship turned swiftly 90 degrees to face him head on.

"Fire mana cannon again!" Gau ordered

"Captain it wont be at full strength,"

"He won't know that," Gau smiled

Set stared down the barrel of the mana cannon as once again it started to glow a dome of bright energy formed at the tip, he roared cancelling the dark element explosion and raising to the sky just as a thinner less power blast shot out from the mana cannon.

"He's behind us!"

"Turn the ship around 180 degrees and face him, activate reverse thrusters and ready our final volly!" Gau orders where followed swifty and ship turned swifty once again to face Set, with a rumble the reverse thrusters activated. "Fire!" Gau shouted and with one press of a button the remained missles within the shadow where launched towards Set, completely off guard Set could only raise his arms to cover his face as many explosions enguffed him the shadow reversing while firing avoiding the blast zone. The crew all roared in triumph Gau too was about to shout in victory when a look from Cid caused him to remember not to celebrate until sure of victory.

"Remain on guard!" Gau called out to his crew, "This fight may not be over yet," the crew instantly stopped celebrating and observed the fading firey cloud before them, as the clouds slowly faded Set's figure could still be seen, he snarled angerly over his crossed arms infront of his face his body damaged and bleeding, he roared and raised high in the sky and raised one arm his body glowing with demonic energy.

"Could it be?" Gau said to himself

"Dark messenger," Cid said to confirm Gau's thoughts

"Ready the mana gun," Gau ordered

"It's no where near ready to fire another shot," Gau turned his attention to Set again. He was speechless as he saw the dark messenger was ready to for use, the sheer size left the entire crew speechless the dark messenger hanged in the in an oversized form far bigger than any dark messenger seen before.

"That attack is far too big just for us," Gau said, Cid laughed to himself.

"What a crule game to play, he purposly made that attack to leave us no choice, we could avoid it if we wanted but then the attack will hit a destroy most of Bevelle instead,"

"Then we have no choice but to destroy that ball, Cid time to us it,"

"You mean Discharge? You know that will leave us vunriable,"

"Yeh but we have no choice,"

"Wise choice Gau, Neji would be proud of this descision,"

"Crew were are going to use Discharge, what ya think?" The crew reply with a roar of no fear.

"Ok lets pop that balloon!" Gau shouted.

*********************************

Zell upper cutted an serpant coming towards him cause it to fall on the ground hard, cooly he turned round drawing a single pistol and fired to shots at a pair of charging demons scoring direct hits to head and causing the demons to be knocked back, he turned towards the sky to see the massive dark messenger in the sky and a bright light forming in the sky.

"is that discharge?" he said to himself before getting distracted by an attacking demon, Zell moved back allowing the creatures blade to pass by him then by bring out his rifel and flicking the melee blades out stabbed it before it could resume its attack. Zell turned to Neji through the melee.

"Neji!" he shouted grapping his attention, Neji sliced a demon in two with a mighty swing before turning to where Zell was pointing.

"Go!" Neji shouted before parrying a demons sword with his and finishing it off with his other. Zell nodded turning to Alia.

"We gotta go Alia,"

"I know hold on a second," she replied from behind her sheild which was receiveing punishing blasts from the demon magicians, "Damn demons," she said as suddenly a wave swept through the demons Fairel following up from behind it slashing her blades through any demon near.

"Timing," she smiled to herself turning to Zell, "Ok lets go!" Zell fought his way through the demons towards Alia and grabbed her hand the pair lifing off.

"We have to hurry," Zell said just as a demon ball past by them, followed by several others, the demons were soon silenced when Keiji appeared as if from no where delivering crippling blows to the mages. And Eevee flew out from the thick of the fighting destroying flying enemy who took off in pursuit.

"We'll cover you!" Keiji shouted.

******************************

"Set is launching the Dark Messenger!"

"This is it then, Turn the Shadow and face the attack," The shadow moved into the direction of the Set and mana cannon near bursting with energy, the entire airship rumbled violently so much so everyone had to grab something to remain balanced. Set roared as he threw the massive ball at the shadow.

"Discharge ready!"

"No going back now, FIRE!"

The Mana Cannon trembled violently and with an all mighty roar of power everything the shadow had to offer was unleashed in one bright beam, which lit up the sky, the brightness balanced out by the overwhelming dark energy from Dark Messenger, the beam although dwarfed by the massive ball collided with equal force haulting the dark messenger the demons and Atellians engaging the Bevelle air forces retreated temporaly frightful of the pair of overwhelming energies.

"Gau now's the time," Cid said, "Time to unleashes the full power of the shadow,"

"Rite, Time to give it all," on Gau's captain panel and hatch opened revealing a great red button, he slammed his fist on the button, on the mana cannon started to tremble even more the thrusters on the ship died, the electric field faded and soon all lights and computers on the shadow blacked out, the sky shook with overwhelming power and the beam coming out the shadow expanded greatly travelling up the beam it collided with dark messenger causing it to fall back, over came by the power the dark messenger began fade and soon the powerful beam penertrated the outer layer causing the whole attack to disperse in a black pulse, Set was left dumbfounded as the mighty beam closed in on him, a slit opened from its back just before it was overcame by the mighty blast, the creature did not even roar as slowly its body began to vanish piece by piece within the blast.

Meanwhile on the shadow the emergancy power kicked in lighting up to ship in a faint light and the engine continued to keep the ship aloft.

"We did it," Gau smiled

"Captain the demons and Atellians are returning to engage our forces, they have surronded the ship."

"I knew that would happen, open gun ports, lets not go down without a fight,"

"But sir they aren't attacking, they seem to just be circling us,"

"What?"

"We have a border!" A crew man shoute, a big faint screen appeared in front of Gau showing an image of on the ships deck, standing there unharmed stood the very same demon they thought had destroyed but smaller, he now stood just taller than Neji but other than that, nothing seemed changed.

"What the hell? But we killed him,"

"That must have just been his shell,"

"Bastard," Gau said

"Why isn't he attacking?" A crew man asked. Gau went silent,

"I know what he's looking for, he wants the necrorb, they know its on board,"

"It seems he's issuing a challenge to the captain of the ship," Cid said

"And the guardian of the Necrorb, both of which are me, Very well I know what it is I must do," Gau cluched his sword, "Everyone, if I fall protect the Necrorb with your lives,"

"Wait Gau, I'll go,"

"Cid? Not in your condition, you wouldn't stand a chance,"

"And neither will you,"

"Then we go together,"

"Very well," Cid smiled drawing his golden sword. "Lets go,"

(Thats quite abit, and it will do for now, Next Gau and Cid get owned, followed by Zell and Alia owning.)

Set's eye's focused on Gau and Cid as they stepped out the airship onto the deck, the demon stood motionless eyeing up the pair that had previously given him so much trouble.

"Hey," Gau said confidenly at Set, the demon said no word and instead held out his hand, purple fire began to gather then stretch eventually materializing into a a sword.

"Nice trick you have there," Cid said drawing his golden sword, Set without warning swiped his sword in the air unleashing a curved purple beam. Gau instantly jumped in front of the attack holding his sword tight in both hands his blade caught the sharp looking energy attack and caused Gau to take a step back, Gau sword went a blaze with an orange flame and with a mighty heave he sliced the energy attack in half, his sword still blazing.

"Whats wrong? never seen an elfish blade before," he smiled charging at Set, cooly Set took a step back avoiding the blazing tip of Gau's sword, and then with one hand easily blocked his follow up strike, Gau's attack was furious but Set appearing to make a fool of Gau dodged and blocked his attacks, before finally counterattacking with the back of his clawed hand causing the mortal to spin in the air and land hard on the ground, in the wake of Gau's attack the brave Cid charged blade help high, effotlessly Set blocked the attack and Cid flinched with the pain in his ribs, seeing this Set crulely punch him in his already brocken ribs.

Cid was thrown back in agony dropping his sword and clutching his ribs, Set paced towards him and put his foot on Cid's chest gradually increasing the preasure, suddenly Gau launched himself at Set catching him off guard Set could only move slightly recieving a burning cut along his chest, he growled at Gau who stood before Cid, Set attacked in aggression but Gau was able to parry Set's attacks gradually being pushed back, eventually Set knocked aside Gau's sword and cut him down the chest, Gau moved to avoid getting killed but took a painful wound and dropped to his knees.

"Give...up...human," Set said his voice deep and menacing.

"Heh, so you have a voice after all," Gau smiled raising to his feet, "But you obviously don't know who I am the son off," magic started to form in Gau's hand it soon becoming surronded with an icy chill. "I am the Son of Choiji" mage to rival the likes of lady Lulu! BLIZZAGA!" Gau roared thrusting his arm forward unleashing a sub zero blast of icy wind, Set was pushed back in the blizzard ice forming around his body, even a demon the likes of Set had to shiver from the cold.

"Whats Wrong? cold?" Gau cancelled his spell and gripped his sword it once again blazing with an orange flame. "Maybe this will help!" he shouted charging forward, Set went to move only to find his feet were frozen to the ship, with a mightly haul he lifted his foot out shattering the ice just in time to avoid Gau, Gau froze as victory was snatched from his fingers and now left very open.

Set's raised his knee striking Gau in the gut, forcing him to spit blood and collapse to the ground out of breath, Set kicked him onto his back and looked down at the captain with disgustice.

"...Necrorb..." was the only word Set could say promting a smile on Gau's face.

"That's some victory chant," he said saracastically raising his hand, "Firaga," Gau said through his smile, a powerful ball of fire burst from Gau's hand scoring a direct hit on Set's face, the demon staggered back angerly wiping the burning embers from his face he fixed his eyes on Gau his now burnt he roared in fury, Gau now on his feet never backed down he raised his sword with one hand clutching his bleeding wound with his other. Set jumped towards Gau murderous fury in his eyes. His sword came down hard, and Gau shut his eye calmly accepting his defeat and death, when suddely he felt himself harshly lifed off his feet and thrown back, Gau opened his eye to see himself getting thrown back in a powerful gust of wind and landing next to Cid.

"What the?" he said to himself looking around, Set too confused by Gau's sudden evasion looked around in anger.

"Pheeeeeew," Zell voice said from behind Set, Set spun round to see two figures land smoothly on the airship, and great smile appeared on Gau's and Cid's face. "Really didn't think we would of made it there, that was quick thinking Alia,"

"Sorry Gau for the roughness but we had to act quick and if we went by blondies plan you would of been dead,"

"aww but I wanted to have a cool heroes enterence, like kicking the bad guy away inches from Gau saving the day, thats something Keiji or Neji would have done,"

"But you suck in close combat, seriously it's like watching a monkey with you jumping back and forward like that,"

"Your no expert either,"

"I know thats why I don't attempt it like you,"

"I feel like such a target, why you being so mean," Zell complained he and Alia bursting into a laugh, Gau scatched the back of his head awkwardly.

"Are these guys for real? Hey Zell watch out!" Gau shouted seeing Set's charge, Zell and Alia stopped there laugh and split up to avoid Set's attack, Alia taking to the sky soon finding herself a target for the surronding demons.

"Alrite I'll deal with our demon buddy here, and if everyone else would be as kind as to keep the spectators in order that would be great."

"Careful Zell thats Set, the most powerful demon before Diablos! And Penance's father!" Alia shouted down at Zell

"Oh great now you tell me. Alrite pops lets get this over with."

(occ - I'm sitting in class at the moment and kinda bored, i just wrote this outa boredom, might take it out again cause i don't think its in sync with whats happening? Is it?? XD LOL Anyway, yeah, through the flames and into the castle, right? :P In theory. I threw in the ugly demon to keep Fari occupied which Eevee and Keiji go and do their thing. Neji could stay with Fari to kick its ass before following, unless hes got other plans? I dunno. Tell meeeeee~ I'm bored~ lol)

With a sweep of her arm a powerful wave of water threw the demons surrounding Fariel sprawling for balance, giving her the opportunity she needed to launch into the thick of them and slash them down. "Is it just me or are these somewhat endless?" She commented sarcastically, the armoured demons still continued to walk out the wall of fire to take the places of the ones that had fallen.

"We need to get inside!" Eevee yelled slashing a winged demon out the sky, each time she had neared the wall of flames it had grown fiercer, blocking her way.

"What do you think, Leviathan, wash out?" Fariel smiled, a great column of water grew up behind her and took on the form of the great serpent. Throwing her hands forwards the water charged towards the wall of fire.
Steam filled the air as the two elements fought each other, Fariel cursed and cut her attack when she felt a change, the water was being pushed back.
Out of the flames where she had attacked, a larger, more menacing demon stepped out wielding a bloodied axe. "Come to join the party?"

The demon roared and ran towards Fariel, Everyone, get inside, "Ill take care of the rest!" She took to the air to avoid the large demon and sent around column of water towards the flames. This time it broke through, killing the flames. "Ill catch up." She drew out some throwing knives that glistened with a purple taint.

You just cant go one day without some kind of suicide act, eh Fariel? Leviathan chuckled sarcastically.

<ooc - Nah, don't worry about it - in fact, I think it's good as I came up blank for a cool entrance into the castle.  Still missing an explanation for why Keiji and Eevee were forced to split up by the magically-shifting corridors but I'll post that up when I think of something (outta sync but what the hell...).  Oh yeah and sorry, I've had this written since Thursday but couldn't get into uni to get online til now>

The defenders were recoiling back in a barely-controlled retreat from the southern walls, desperately trying to form a second line and hold back Shuruk'jaar's attack.  High Priest Retala was one of the last to leave his post as Kimahri's rearguard began to fall back from the breach, turning away from the burning red eye of the demon general and ghosting down into the city on an Aero spell with one of his mages in tow.
There was a ripple of fire behind him.  With the elves in retreat they could no longer maintain their network of defensive spells around the walls and demons could now teleport through the gaps.  Out of the flames stepped Shuruk'jaar.
"Are you running from me, High Priest?" he growled, baring pointed fangs.
Retala and his acolyte whirled to face him, and for the first time Retala smiled.  In the arrogance of his imminent victory, the demon general had come after him alone, without his honour guard of serpent demons.  Like this, Retala had a chance of taking him down.
Without hesitating both Retala and the mage threw their hands forward, white-hot flames welling up around their fingers to send twin Bisingr fireballs roaring towards Shuruk'jaar.  They reflected red in the demon's good eye as both orbs opened wide in shock.  The magic missiles exploded in a blast that tore the concrete road apart, the firestorm dissipating to leave no trace of Shuruk'jaar.
"Did we get him?" the mage asked Retala cautiously.
But then there was a flash of purple fire behind him and clawed hands closed around his head, cutting off his scream as they ripped outwards to break his neck in one quick twist.  The mage dropped like a stone and Shuruk'jaar leapt forward towards Retala, but the High Priest had already drawn a wave sword from inside his robes in a flash of silver.  Together with the jewel-topped staff in his other hand it rose to block Shuruk'jaar's blade-tipped wing in a parry that was too fast for the human eye to follow.  Retala immediately counter-attacked; Shuruk'jaar was just as fast as the elf, seizing the wave swords blade to stop the attack even though Retala ripped the sword backwards to gash the demons fingers to the bone.  Retala struck out with his staff and caught Shuruk'jaar across the chest, the great sapphire at the staff's top discharging with a terrific blast of energy that hurled his opponent back.
"Shea nudh elthir..." Retala began, but Shuruk'jaar had twisted as he fell to land in a crouch and launch himself back at the High Priest in a panther-like spring, his lightning-fast punch bypassing Retala's defences and sending him reeling back.  Now though Retala too twisted agilely in midair and landed on his feet.
"Bisingr du knifr," he whispered, then blasted a stream of Firannon lightning towards Shuruk'jaar before returning to the attack with a sweep of his now-blazing wave sword.  Shuruk'jaar ducked aside, his wing flicking out in a lightning-fast lunge which Retala deflected with a Dyann Ra concentrated around his hand like a small shield.  The High Priest spun round, his fiery sword sweeping a bright semicircle round him as he stabbed down in a fluid counterattack.  Shuruk'jaar's wing uppercut to meet it and the claw at the tip impaled Retala's wrist to stop the attack dead.  Retala dropped his sword and barely had time to cry out before Shuruk'jaar's other wing punched through his side and the heel of the demon's hand sent him flying back.  Retala fell with a splash onto the rain-swamped pavement, clutching the bleeding wound in his side.
Shuruk'jaar advanced on him, now surrounded by several serpent demons, but suddenly the demon stopped, his good eye opening wide in surprise as he responded to something only a demon could sense.
"The castle has been breached...Penance is in danger!" he whispered aloud, almost too quietly for even Retala's elven ears to hear.
"With me!" he growled to his honour guard.
"Firannon!" Retala cried defiantly, raising his staff in his good hand to launch a stream of crackling lightning towards the demons, but in a flash of purple fire they had vanished to leave Retala alone and wounded in the street.

*     *     *

Laguna, blood running down one side of his face, waited alongside the defenders at the second line.  Humans, of the Guard and various other factions, were mixed indiscriminately in with Guado and Al'bed - men who had lost their units, in the explosion that had breached the north wall and the ensuing chaos, rallying together at any defensive positions they could find in a desperate attempt to hold back the demons that were now inside the city itself.  Weapons were shouldered, braced or rested against makeshift barricades as the demon assault began, the attackers driving routed Spiran stragglers before them and cutting them down as they overran them.
For a moment, Laguna cast his gold, almond-shaped eyes towards the northern horizon, which was dark save for the sickly purple glow seeping outwards from the Calm Lands.
"Aeons be with you, Fari." he murmured under his breath.
Because whatever gods there were seemed to have deserted them here in Bevelle.
Grimly, Laguna gripped the hilts of his wave swords and pulled them free of their scabbards across his back in one smooth motion.  Then with a mighty shout he ran forward from the defenders' line.  He leapt towards the demons and dived headfirst, spinning, into their ranks, his glittering wave swords rotating with him and slashing through demon flesh.

*     *     *

Jacen Locke sprinted down the stairs, jumped the last six and hit the ground running, senses alert as he headed for the door.  As he crossed the threshold a jet of purple light slashed down either side of him, two serpent demons materialising and bringing up their battle staffs.  Jacen didn't hesitate.  He swept his arms round - one forward, one back - and the staffs discharged their deadly green energy bolts wide as they were knocked aside.  Jacen was already diving forward as one demon recovered and lunged at him with the triple blades topping its staff, his hands flying to his concealed knives.  He came out of his diving roll with daggers crossed and lunging forward, slamming into the abdomen of the second demon.  It exploded into purple fire and Jacen threw himself aside as the remaining demon's staff sang through the air where his head had been.  He rolled back onto his feet, hurling one dagger at his antagonist in the same movement.  It spun through the air and thunked into the demon's neck, so that the demon flew backwards with a horrible choking sound and dissolved into flame, the dagger clattering to the floor.  Jacen laughed quietly to himself.

"Just like when I first entered Kebel."

He picked up his fallen blade and looked around quickly.  Now that Penance's army was inside the city events were moving rapidly - the battle had already swept through this quarter and moved on, the Spiran defences overrun.  Dead Guardsmen littered the street, killed at their posts or cut down while trying to flee.  The battle in the suburbs had already been lost.
One of the Guardsmen, slumped against a building wall at the pavement side, suddenly stirred and cried out.  His face was a mask of blood.  Jacen immediately ran forwards, the sound of his feet against tarmac drowned by the storm and the sounds of battle still raging in other parts of the city, but as he crossed the street demons erupted from the buildings on all sides.  Martial demons in brass armour appeared, carrying great swords and axes in their clawed hands, their every movement laden with menace.  Raptor-clawed serpent demons materialised in jets of purple light and spun their battle staffs, their sleek reptilian bodies speaking of inhuman strength and whipcord muscle.
Jacen was surrounded.  He regripped the hilts of his knives, his hands slippery with cold sweat.  Then, a flicker of a smile crossed his face.
"I'm coming, brother..." he whispered.
The demons leapt forward.

*     *     *

"They've broken through!  They're inside the city!  Sir?  Sir!  What do we do!?"

Demons were pouring through the gaping hole in the north wall, and though the second line of tanks and fortified buildings were pouring fire into them, the attackers' resolve held and fire began to engulf the northern suburbs as the first house-to-house fighting broke out.
The Custodians had broken through the cordon at the tunnel entrances and now the Guard were fighting a desperate holding action to keep them contained.  The civilians cowered in their safe zones while their Youth Legion guardians listened to the sounds of battle draw slowly closer and closer.
"Hold them back!  Hold them back!" General Beni roared into his commlink as the thwak-boom of a nearby Al'bed tank's main armament rattled the windows of the adjacent buildings.  He glanced out of the half boarded-up window of the ad hoc command centre and saw Gippal directing the fire of his Al'bed in the street below.  Machina guns spat fire in a crashing volley that forced the Custodians and their supporting demons into cover, while those who had been charging straight down the road were snatched back in a welter of blood.  As Beni watched, Gippal slammed his chainsaw-halberd into the ground and further up the street an answering shockwave caused the road to bulge and explode upwards, hurling three demons into the air as they tried to blindside the defenders from a side street.
Many demons were dying, but so were many defenders - blue icons on Beni's palmtop display representing friendly forces turned red and then vanished as units failed to report in and were presumed destroyed.  The defensive line at the breach was collapsing, Shuruk'jaar and his serpent demons pushing inexorably forward.  They would soon be joined by the amphibious assault that had all but battered past the Spiran navy's stubborn defence and was even now closing in on the Guado and LeBlanc Syndicate troops dug in and waiting grimly around the docks as Penance's ships began to rain shells down on them.  In the north the attackers now had a foothold in the city, having driven the defenders from the houses in the outer suburbs with brutal, bloody-minded assaults.  Fire now criss-crossed the streets, blazing from doors and windows and blasting holes in concrete.  The attackers' first push had been stalled when lethal crossfires ripped the waves of demons howling up the streets into a bloody shambles, but more demon reinforcements were massing by the minute and when the next push came Beni did not know if they could drive the enemy back a second time.  The General's knuckles were white as he gripped the windowsill, but his face was calm, hazel eyes stern and determined beneath deeply-lined white eyebrows.  While his staff officers milled around the command centre like demented worker ants trying to coordinate the crumbling defences, and while Gippal's Al'bed and Beni's own Guardsmen fought and died below, the Guard general slowly unsheathed his sabre and held the finely-crafted blade up before his eyes.  Then he turned and strode purposefully across the room, ignoring the questioning shouts of his subordinates as he headed down the stairs to join the battle below.
There was nothing left to do but die.

The stones of the walls around Eevee ran like wax, morphing into hellish faces that screamed silently at her as she sprinted down the twisting corridor.  It warped and reformed before her eyes, seeking to trap her, trying to cut her off from reaching Penance.  The smell of blood was thick in the air, making her want to gag.  It ran down the walls, oozing from between the dully-glowing stones and pooling in the gutters under the walls.  Her Aeons fought off the demonic voices that tried to claw their way into her mind as she ran, her way illuminated only by a Bisingr spell coursing over her left hand while her right hand carried her activated force-lance.  One of the flickering shadows detached itself from the walls and leapt at her.  She incinerated the demon with the charged and ready elvish fireball, ducking under the immolated remains as they flew over her head and burst into purple flames before flickering and dying.  Now all was pitch-black, the only sound a steady dripping as blood seeped from the ceiling.
There was a sudden flash of purple light, then several pairs of glowing yellow eyes appeared in the blackness.  A trio of serpent demons stepped forward, raptor talons clicking against the stone, their menacing hiss rising to a screech as they came at Eevee.  A Dyann Ra blazed up, temporarily bathing the tunnel in golden light as it deflected the energy blasts from their battle staffs.  Darkness fell again, only to be lit up by three white flashes in quick succession as Eevee blasted all three demons with pulses of her force-lance.  The screams and purple death-fires of the demons died, and all was dark once again.
Two glowing points of light, white in gold, appeared as Eevee opened her eyes and looked up.
"Shea nudh elthir erreintha!" she hissed, her voice weirdly harmonised with Ramuh's and Tritoch's as she drew on both her Aeons' power and unleashed it in a white fireball that swept along the corridor and flared brightly against the walls.  The swirling faces that saturated the stone screamed and vanished, and the walls stopped flexing and bowing to settle reluctantly into solidity.  The pools and rivulets of blood congealed and vaporised.  Now the still corridor ran straight, lit by a ghostly, glowing purple mist that swirled near the ground.

"Damn it, I don't have time for this..."

Eevee flicked her force-lance and it telescoped out into its staff form as she began running up the corridor.
But one final challenge barred her way.
Eevee skidded to a halt as a cyclone of purple fire whirled up ahead, a monstrous figure appearing and spreading his bat-like wings so that his menacing silhouette filled the wide corridor.
"I told you I'd be back for you." he snarled, the dim purple light throwing shadows across his warped demonic face and the scars that twisted one side of it.
"Shuruk'jaar..." Eevee hissed, the suspicions that had risen at the appearance of the serpent demons now confirmed.
"Did you think you'd seen the last of me?" Shuruk'jaar growled in a distorted tone that mixed the voices of both demon and host.
"I have seen the last of you." Eevee snarled back, spinning the force-lance in one hand to rest diagonally behind her.  She channelled her magic into it in the spell she had never mastered before unlocking the power of her Aeons, so that the runes covering the fluted staff lit up and glowed and the entire weapon blazed with a halo of white light.
"Uhr gt'cha!" Shuruk'jaar roared, punching a fist forward to send a demonic fireball streaking down the corridor.  But Eevee had already Timeshifted - outrunning the explosion in a white blur she spun her force-lance into a two-handed horizontal grip and slammed it upwards.  The power stored up in the weapon discharged in a terrific blast, sending Shuruk'jaar reeling backwards.  Eevee reappeared right in front of the demon, the barrel of her force-lance spinning up.  It slammed up beneath Shuruk'jaar's jaw.  Eevee jammed her thumb against the firing rune.
The white flare of an energy bolt tore up through Shuruk'jaar's head, exploding in a white flash.  For a second the demon general remained upright, then he toppled backwards and fell heavily against the stone floor in a crash of armour, seared flesh glowing dully around his shattered skull.  Then, as Eevee watched, purple flames enveloped the body, billowing up in leaping tongues before hazing away.  When they had faded the body remained, but the demonic features had vanished and it was just the broken body of an Atellian that lay at her feet, with his feathered wings twisted under him.  At the centre of the shattered head, the eye that wasn't a flat milky white stared glassily at the ceiling.
Eevee took in a shuddering gasp of a breath, then stepped over the body and began running once more down the corridor.

As Fariel doused the castle's protective flames Keiji was suddenly drawn by a feeling, he looked up at the castle and noticed a slender female figure looking over the battle below her.

"Tsunami," Keiji said focusing on his target, a demon lunged at him with a clawed hand quickly Keiji leaned back the sharp claws passing infront of him and in one motion elbowed the demon back while ducking under his arm, seeing Keiji's charge the figure retreated back from the window, another demon jumped in front of Keiji taking little notice of the demon Keiji grabbed his head forcing it down and jumped onto the creatures back launching himself up in the air completely bypassing the demons below and the main door Keiji landed on a balcony a floor up with no demons barring his path he proceded through a door not knowing what to expect.

***************

Zell met Set's murderous stare with a confident smile, his melee rifel pointing to the ground in one hand his other hand hanged loosely at Loki. Paitently he waited for Set to make the first move ready to counter whatever approach he had.

***************

Confident in the other abilities Neji was the first to enter the castle, immeditaly he sensed the demonic properties of the seeming lifeless walls around him.

"Neji!" Eevee shouted running through the keep door, Neji turned to her just as a wall slid between them, the many corridors forming a new shape and effectivly seperating everyone.

"Think will complicate things?" Neji smiled.

"Nah," Neji and Diablos said insync.

"Its demonic they will show the way to there king,"

Neji stepped towards a wall and faced it with certainty, the walls immeidiatly re-shaped before Neji with a smile he walked calmly down the corridor free from obsticals.

*****************

Keji felt his away down the dark corridor silently, he had no idea where he was or how to get out, all he knew was that he was still in Penances castle and being stuck in the dark put him at great danger. Eventually Keiji had enough of the dark, he dared not light his way in fear of drawing unwanted attention but he felt at more risk not knowing what could be stalking him, he tightened his fist bursting his plated gloves into a heated fire, and the corridor suddenly sprang to life lighting a small area around him, Keiji looked in all directions but nothing was behind him or in front so cautiously he continued in the direction he was heading.

Eventually Keiji came across a grand door, he had, had enough of sneaking about if anything was waiting for him through that door he wasnt going to keep it waiting any longer, he charged kicking through the door, he rolled on the ground and sprang up ready for battle his other glove sparking with electricity, but the room was empty, well not empty it appeared he was in a lovely bed room almost exactly like Tsunamis room in the stead mansion, except dark. Keiji cursed he had traveled down a pitch black corridor for nearly an hour and found nothing. he was about to turn round when the flames on his glove vanished, followed shortly by the sparks on his lightning glove, and no matter how hard he tried he couldnt seem to light them up again leaving Keiji once again in the pitches of blacks, it was as if someone had cast Nulblaze and Nulshock on both, but how and who?

Keijis thought no more of the matter after he heard footsteps come slowly down the corridor, he kept silent hoping that whatever was coming down couldnt see him just like he couldnt see it, but he would not be as lucky the walking paced footsteps soon seemed to turn into a sprint, getting ever closer to him, listening closely Keiji waited till the steps were close then threw his fist forward in an educated guess, he indeed timed it right but hit only an invisible wall, and then he soon felt himself getting shoulder barged to the ground. He looked up to see a pair of golden eyes stare at him through the dark.

*******************

Set snarled immpaitently at Zell's waiting game yet Zell stood unfazed still the same smile, eventually Set slashed his sword unleashing a sharp looking slash of energy Zell raised his crystal absorbing the blast Set growled and charged to counter Zell flicked his arm sending the energy blast back at Set, the demon caught off guard made a last minute dodge, the counter failed to hit but Zell was fast to continue his attack as Set was still getting over the shock of having his attacked used against him Zell had drawn both pistols replacing his rifel with one he crossed his arms and fired many shots in quick succession, Set dodged the first pair and jumped back he threw up a dark encampment wall but the wall merely cracked under the power of the bullets forcing the demon to take to the sky.

"Fraking flyers," Zell said to himself re-aiming to the sky following Set, but the demons fast flying manuvers were too quick for Zell and he couldn't get a clear shot, Set barrel rolled avoiding another bullet and punched his fist forward attack with a Dark Dragon, Zell threw Loki in the air and turned his hand catching the blast in his crystal before catching his gun again and continuing his attack.

******************

Penance stood gazing at the sky surronded by a flaming glyph, the flames growing larger and larger uneffected by the rain, his eyes were gast in pure black, above him the clouds swirled a purple energy shining through them slowly the clouds began to vanish under a a sky as black as the nights sky the darkness started the spread across the sky soon to engulff the whole of Spira, the rain continued getting heavier and heavier as slowly Penance's ultimate goal approached the merging of the two worlds.

Penance laughed in delight. "Welcome to Spira, enternal energy of the demon world," Penance laughed madly a laugh soon cut short when he sensed something was wrong, the darkness had stopped spreading.

"These worlds are seperate for a reason," Neji called out from behind Penance. Penance turned round to see Neji stand at the door one hand raised to the sky holding back the energy over taking Spira. "Merging the two worlds? Don't you know they don't get along?"

"How? How are you doing this?"

"The demon world has not forgotten it king," Neji said his voice merged with Diablos' "It knows its doing wrong and cowering before its lord,"

"It not your world any more Diablos, hasn't been for over 5000 years, the demon world as accepted a new master!"

"It took you 5000 years to be accepted? Well it took us 5 days for it to return loyal to Diablos,"

"Its my world! And as is this one! and when they become one the eternal energy of the demon world will mix with that of the farplain giving birth to a new greater power one which I will control! DEMON WORLD! LISTEN TO YOUR MASTER COME FORTH! I ORDER YOU!" Penance roared to the sky his eyes shifting black again, Neji felt an extreme preasure on his arm as the weight of the demon world pushed against him. He tensed and pushed back and thus the energy remained unmoved.

******************

"Who are you?" Keiji demanded jumping to his feet, the eyes soon vanished leaving Keiji with no way of telling where his assailant was. He listened to the air around him and soon caught the whistle of something swinging at him, he ducked feeling a draft pass over his head, and in a guess he swept his leg round, but got nothing. The golden eyes appeared once again, this time circling him, Keiji kept his eyes on them tracing this persons movements, not letting this opportunity slip past he kicked towards the eyes which soon vanished and Keiji lost his balance as he passed through the air, he heard something behind him and swung his leg round in a round house kick, but once again hit nothing, the next thing he felt was his legs being swept from under him putting his hand down first Keiji broke his fall, quickly getting back steady on his feet. Whoever this person was, was merely toying with him making a game from his inability to see in the dark, they started to make noises further toying with him, frantically he punched and kicked the air hoping to get lucky and following the noises, but got nothing only damaging the furniture and walls. Then the noises stopped and Keiji stopped his failed attempts to hit and once again began to focus, he closed his eyes he was getting no where like this he had to try and sense his opponent. Keiji entered a type of meditation remaining calm and focusing on everything around him then the pin dropped and he discovered something else he could hear, the persons breathing. Keiji leapt to the attack shocking his opponent as he narrowly missed them, his fist brushing past the persons silky hair as they moved to evade, angered they retaliated by stabbing what ever weapon they held, Keiji sensed great danger from the weapon he moved but got slightly cut by a blades edge, a very minor wound but surprisingly brought him great pain, the wound expanded and bled quite badly, Keiji pressed his hand on the wound to stop the bleeding, suddenly the room lit up in a blinding light with such power Keiji was swept off his feet and pushed back, he slammed his lower back against the great bed, slowly he got to his feet his wound still burning and also in confusion on what exactly that attack was, it looked like holy but Keiji doubted that since none of Penances men could use white magic. He heard the foot steps burst into a sprint, knowing the opponent was coming in for the kill Keiji had to take a gamble, waiting till the last possible moment he moved feeling the weapon fly past him, he reached his arm up and caught a wrist.

"I've got you now," Keiji said tighten his grip as the person tried desperately to pull free, grabbing them he flipped them over his shoulder onto the bed, pouncing Keiji pinned them down his hand round the persons throat the other pressing there sword arm on the bed.  "Play games with me eh?"

"Do you like choking me?" the person said, Keiji's eyes widened as he recognized the voice, he jumped and off the bed, the nulblaze and nulshock faded from the air and he immediately lit the room with his fire knuckle.

"Hi sweetie," Tsunami said seductively smiling at him

**************

Set's sword glowed brightly as he glided through the air.

"****," Zell said as the his pistols ran out of bullets, Set wickedly smiled and straighten up in the air and then rapidly swung his sword unleashing blast upon blast of the same attack, Zell couldn't reloaded in time and was forced to raise his crystal to absorb more energy, suddenly the blasts stopped a bright shield appearing before Zell. Set snarled and looked at Gau but he played no role appearing distracted by fighting off boarding demons and protecting the injured Cid.

"I'm here," Alia said appearing behind Set, she pressed her hand against his back and unleashed a mighty blast of pulse of water. Zell smiled and held his hand towards the falling Set sending out his stored energy, Set got caught between the two magical blasts resulting in huge explosion.

"Did we do it?" Alia called down to Zell

"Not yet!" Zell said seeing an angry Set burst out the cloud in a fit of rage, he swung at Alia the Atellian dodging quickly, Set attacked her violently Alia not suited in close combat fought back desperatly, but was eventually over powered. Zell cursed loudly, he couldn't fly and to the pair were moving too quickly making it far too dangerous to fire, instead Zell aimed carefully loading a water bullet into his mana gun, watching carefully, a roar diverted his attention and Zell turned to see a demon and Atellian fly towards him, he fired the water bullet blasting back the attacking demon, in one swift motion he took out his rifel in time to block the blade of an Atellian, he skillfully dodged the attack then knocked the Atellian's sword out his hand and stabbing him, he turned back in time to see Set knock aside Alia's staff and grab her round the throat. "Perfect!" he said loading another water capsule.

*******************

"You're a nuiscence!" Penance roared to Neji "Behold the power of the true master of the demon world," A portal opened behind Penance, steadily liquid like energy pured out and began to swirl round Penance, "Behold the Eternal Power in physical form, and I have complete control! DIE! UNDERWORLD CRASH!" The energy spilled out in a massive torrent of overwhelming power at a magnitde Neji had Never seen before, he focused on the energy and put his hand forward having to let go of his old of the demon world, the energy haulted before Neji but continued to push back on him hard, swet started to pour from his head, Neji opened a small portal and steadily started to build power in his arm, he looked to the sky to see the blackness spread once again and he knew his time was short.

"Diablos' more power," Neji said to himself the black energy enguffed his arm and grew greater and greater, Neji clenched his fist and brough it before his head, he roared the ground beneth him cracked under the extreme weight and power and Neji was surronded by a purple swirling aura, "DEMONIC BURST EDGE!" he roared punching his fist towards the energy before him, the demonic burst edge erupted out of Neji's arm tearing through Underworld Crash, and dispersing the attack into nothing, Penance who was laughing manically to the sky stopped and stared in shock and fear at the mighty coming towards him, The attack explouded on impact and Penance was thrown back in thick dust cloud, he rolled along the ground before coming to hault lying face down on the ground.

Neji smiled and raised both hands to the sky, slowly he began to bring his hands closer together the energy retreating back into the swirling cloud, Neji clasped his hands together seperating the worlds once again. He collapsed to one knee.

"You Bastard, you bastard! YOU BASTARD!" Penance roared in rage rising to his feet, Neji smiled at him, "Looks like you have to start all over again," Penance raised his sword regaining his composure, "No matter, I'll just kill then no one will be able to stop the merging of the worlds,"

"How long you think we'll last alone?" Diablos asked

"10 minutes I'd say," Neji smiled drawing his two swords. "Then I'll be too tired, hopefully someone will arrive before then."

************

Keiji nearly exploded into rage. "You!" he yelled about to launch an attack but stopped the flames vanishing from his glove. Tsunami clicked her fingers causing candles around the room and a candle lit chandelier on the roof spark up lighting up the room, in a dim blaze.

"Oh Keiji I'm hurt, and after you pinned me to a bed as well and here was me thinking you loved me again, you could at least say its nice see you," Tsunami turned to her side on the bed her head resting on her hand, she looked at Keiji seductively causing him to step back nervously. "Oh youre still so shy, its so cute," Tsunami said while standing up and walking towards Keiji. Keiji took a step back for every step Tsunami took towards him until he felt his back pressed against the wall. "Why do you step back Keiji? Are you going to attack me? or embrace me? You said in Zanarkand next time it would be for real, well you had me back then, and why didnt you finish the job?"

"Why do you do this Tsunami why do you always make that taunt? We are enemies does it really matter whether I love you or not?"

"I'm just messing with you," Tsnuami said coming in close to Keiji, "I know your feelings Keiji," she whispered in his hear before bring her lips close his, "And I love you," Tsunami kissed Keiji who didnt resist for a second before quickly coming to his senses and pushing her back.

"I may love you Tsunami but that doesnt change the fact you are my enemy and you stand in my way of my goal,"

Tsunami clenched her fists, "Why Keiji!? Why are you so fixed on defeating Penance!? You cant beat him! Ive seen it! Ive seen the outcome of the battle!"

"What are you talking about?"

"You will not make it through this battle! Whether you win or lose! You have a fate worse than death!"

"I don't know what image you saw Tsunami but I dont care even if it costs me everything, even if I have a fate worse than death, if I have the satisfaction that Penance is truly gone and everyone I care for is safe, I dont care what happens to me,"

"Why are you like that?! There is hope Keiji, if you come to my side you will have no need to fight Penance and can avoid that fate completely,"

"And what about everyone else?! Eevee! my Father! Fariel! listen to yourself Tsunami how could you be so selfish! What makes you think I would ever choose that option?!"

"Heh, you so predictable, well my mission is a failure, but there is one other option; if I kill you at least you wont disappear completely," Tsunami picked up her cross staff changing it into a sword, she charged at Keiji blindly sword held above her head, in one swift movement Keiji channeled a small lightning edge into his fingers ducked low and stabbed Tsunami.

"Iknewyou could do it," Tsunami said with a slight smile. Slumping down only to be caught by Keiji.

(That alot for now, will finish Keiji and Tsunami and Zell fight another time)

Set squeezed Alia's neck tighter a bloodthirsty smile on his face, so wrapped up on squeezing the life out of Alia he failed to noticed the blast of water travelling towards him, completely off guard Set was struck hard on the side the pulse of water blasting him away from Alia.

Zell smiled loading a lightning capsule, Alia landed weakly next to him.

"Thanks," she said rubbing her neck.

"Any idea's on beating this guy,"

"According to Legend Set was a ****y demon far to sure in his power and superiority, Diablos was able to kill him by using the newly developed Lightning Edge confident in his strength Set took the hit ending in his obvious death,"

"Well none of us can use lightning edge so that idea's out the window, and looks hows back," Set landed hard on the airship staring daggers at Zell. Flipping out his rifel Zell stood in front of Alia. "We need to think of something, but till then lets just hold out."

********************

"Tell me why Tsunami,"

"Since birth, Penance's visions and ambitions haunted me, I was forever under his control, I wanted out, I wanted to die, but couldn't I was too afraid and his will was to strong over me, I was forced to do as he willed, I wanted you to kill me all along so I can finally be free, also I wanted to protect you, I really have seen an outcome of the battle," Keiji's eyes softened "Keiji? can I ask you one last thing?"

"sure,"

"Will you stay with me?"

"Yeh," Keiji lay Tsunami down on the bed and sat next her holding her hand in his.

"I'm sorry Keiji," she cried tears streaming down her face, "I didn't want to do any of those things,"

"Tsunami"

"I'll miss you Keiji,"

"I'll miss you to Tsunami,"

"I can't believe it's the end," Tsunami smiled "Goodbye, my love and thank you" With those words Tsunami eyes closed, her grip loosening from Keijis hand.

Keiji lightly kissed her brow, never letting go of her hand "You suffered more than any of us, Im sorry I couldn't see it before," Keiji leaned into Tsunamis ear, "I know about everything, I will defeat Penance, for you."

************

Set and Zell charged at eachother while running Zell fired his lightning capsule Set blocked the attack with his sword charging through, taking his rifel in both hands Zell collided blades with Set matching his strength, ****ily Set smiled and pushed Zell back, quickly he dropped sweeping at Set's legs but the demon was too alert raising in the sky and bring his sword down, Zell rolled forward and rose to his feet, Set attack furiously but Zell's reactions were too great and Set couldn't even scrape Zell's armor. Set continued to attack tirerlessly, slowly Zell began to slow down fatigue taking effect on the Al'bed. Eventually Zell became to sluggish to dodge or make a good counter attack and was forced to block a heavy blow from Set pushing back with both arms while Set easily pushed down with one, Set clenched his fist and punched Zell hard in his exposed chest, the impact by passing his armor and forcing him to spit blood before collapsing back, Set licked his lips and raised his sword high to finish the battle it was then Zell caught sight of a bright light behind Set, Alia had risen in the air and was about to launched the mighty Tri-Dazer at the off guard Set, Zell suddenly got an idea, summoning up all his strength he knocked aside Set's kill blow while raising to his feet knocking him off balance then lept up spring boarding off Set's shoulder put himself in the path of the Tri-Dazer he cast aside his rifel and brought out his Mana Gun, Alia's eyes widened.

"What are you doing!?" she yelled worried and angered, Zell raised his arm and caught the attack in his jewel completely absorbing, he landed in a crouch and loaded the last Tri-dazer capsule. Set turned round swinging his sword, getting inside the attack Zell pressed his hand against Set's chest and then pressed the tip of the mana gun barrel against the jewel on the back of his hand, Set looked down curiously at Zell who smiled victoriusly.

"A smart demon would of ran by now, you really are too ****y," Zell pulled the trigger of the mana gun while unleashing the energy out the jewel, Set relised to late to strength of such attack, the energy erupted out of the jewel the buldge pushing Zell away and in a mighty explosion both were engulffed in a bright muti-coloured blast, Set roared as the blast tore him apart before passing straight through him and flying off into the distance, Zell also caught up in the explosion was thrown back far enough to avoid such a fate, when the light faded Zell was seen flying back thrown off the airship his jewel crumpling after him, his face bloodly and armor nearly all destroy, Alia flew after him catching him in the air as he fell. Weakly he opened his eyes.

"How was that for cool,"

"You're an idiot,"

***************

Leaving Tsunami behind him Keiji made his way through the ever changing halls of Penance's castle, he could feel an epic battle raging somewhere, following this feeling Keiji ran through the halls any demon that appeared to stop him was trampled under foot, eventally Keiji came to another stair well, as he ran up the clatter of sword could be heard louder and louder, eventually he came to great wooden door and without a thought burst through.

On the other side of the door Neji with blades crossed met Penance's blade. "Father!" Keiji shouted grabbing the pairs attention. Neji smiled.

"Not bad timing, I could of held out for another 4 minutes," Neji roared and pushed Penance back falling back to Keiji who was running towards him.

"Well, Well, Keiji it's nice to finally meet you face to face, I've heard so much about you, so this is one of the children who can surrposibly beat me,"

"Penance," Keiji said angerly

"Accroding to Lanconfir you and that other brat can defeat me, but accroding to my vision I kill not only you but everyone else, and Tsunami's vision see's you pair beat me but you meeting a similar fate, so many destiny's it's exciting to find out which is right, in my opinion we have all grown too strong for destiny to control,"

"I to beleive destiny has no role on what will take place today,"

"Ah so we think the same, very true, people like us shouldn't exist thats why I think you should come to my side,"

"I'll pass,"

"Pitty, very well young demon show me what you can do,"

"Keiji, I going to drop back and rest, couldn't you hold him for awhile, the others should not be far off,"

"No problem!" Keiji yelled charging forward at incredible speed, his hand blazed with fire and with using the speed Keiji delivered a powerful punch to Penance, with a smile Penance merely crossed his arms and took the punch on the face, Keiji looked on in shock as his powerful punch didn't even cause Penance to flinch, he stood un-moving, as if Keiji was a normal teenager punching a wall, Penance smiled.

"This is bad..." Neji said getting ready to step into the fight, "Keiji shouldn't be this weak, what is wrong?" Diablos said.

"Lets give him a chance, he's not using his full power,"

Keiji leapt in the air spinning round he kicked Penance in one the cheek but the only effect was Penance's head moved to the side.

"You are meant to kill me? This is just embarrising," Penance laughed, he slashed his sword causing Keiji to jump back. "Stop fooling around boy,"

"Keiji this is no time to be holding back!" Neji yelled

"I know, I had hoped to fight this battle as a human and without using this power, but I see I have no choice,"

Keiji crouched slightly and pressed his fist against the ground, his body began to glow and a strong dark aura swirled round his body, Keiji skin suddenly changed to tanned red before suddenly fading back to his usual colour, when he raised his head nothing had appeared to change of Keiji's appearance except the powerful dark aura round him. Neji smiled. "Well done Keiji, he is now 100% in control,"

"You think a fancy light show is going to impress me? I need to see proof,"

Keiji smiled readying for a charge, "Very well," at first Keiji appeared to simply disappear, moving at such speed to be undetecable by the human eye, Penance raised his guard too late and Keiji fist slammed into his chest, Penance was thrown back from the momentum, he slammed into the side of the roof and tumbled off the castle. Neji stood dumbfounded.

"When did he became this strong?" Diablos said provoking a proud smile on Neji.

Penance slowly raised up from the side a castle his four wings spread wide, a purple aura swirling round him, rage in his eyes. Keiji smiled and charged again appearing behind Penance he kicked him back onto the castle, Penance leapt back up to his feet, Keiji pointed at him with a smile. "Demon ball," he said to himself launching a volly of demon balls from the tip of his fingers, Penance raised his quard and despite the many demon balls colliding into him stood un-moved but anger further, Keiji bolt towards him one more time in the wake of the demon ball flurry and went to punch Penance again this time however Penance completely an guard blocked the punch with a open hand and raised his sword, Keiji leapt into the air chased by Penance, Penance thrusted his sword towards Keiji who vanished in the air appearing behind Penance he grabbed his foot and twirled in the air throwing him towards the ground, Penance crashed into the ground below breaking through the hard rock to the floor below, with a snarl Penance slowly raised up the floor.

"You angels even now you annoy me, but this is but one portion of my power, let me show you a little more."

Penance and Keiji glared at each other, never moving and never breaking that stone-cold stare, still as statues against the violently moving backdrop of rain and wind.   Then the stillness was broken as Penance roared a spell.Dark energy coiled up round Oblivion's blade and erupted in a blinding flash, forcing Keiji to shield his eyes.  An after-image of Penance remained burned into his retina framed in purple light, crowning the demon lord with an outline of black fire.In that instant Penance struck, and there was a flash like a lightning strike as his blow swatted Keiji backwards."NO!" Neji yelled, but Keiji caught himself and twisted in midair, landing on his feet.  He stared Penance down defiantly, his dark aura crackling around him and almost matching Penance's in its intensity.  He swept his fist down and red flames welled up around his hand in a powerful Lightning Edge.  Penance smiled wolfishly."Impressive..." he admitted, gripping Oblivion's hilt.  Then he cast his own Lightning Edge which blazed up around Oblivions blade with a sound like a roaring inferno."Geuloth du knifr!" a voice suddenly called out behind him.A green glow ensnared Penance's sword, but after a few seconds the tendrils of light shredded and dissipated, unable to touch the demon magic of Oblivion."Useless!" Penance laughed, but then was forced to defend himself from a volley of lightning bolts.  He raised his sword in defence, his teeth gritted as the force of the impacts battered him backwards.  The final bolt was a long stream of silver light which drove against Oblivion's blade until with a roar he threw it off, scattering the lightning in a hail of sparks.

"Welcome Ramuh, Tritoch..." Penance grinned sarcastically, "Show yourselves."

Eevee ghosted out of her Timeshift, rising up from the hole Penance had made in the castle roof with wings spread.  A blinding white light surrounded her, hiding her with its brilliance, her force lance sparking at its centre like a shard of lightning. She swept over to Keiji and landed next to him while Penance lowered his blade and watched as if amused."Dull the blade won't work against Lightning Edge, Eevee." Keiji whispered."Yes, I noticed." Eevee replied dryly, spinning her force lance to rest behind her.  Her mind was calm, her two Aeons' power a bright halo around her and their voices a comforting presence at the back of her mind.  Just as comforting was the presence of her godfather Neji and of Keiji beside her.Not alone.  Not any more. She glanced quickly at Keiji, saw the same calm determination in her friend's eyes, and turned back to Penance.

"Ramuh...Tritoch...and Diablos," Penance nodded, "Now it's getting interesting.  But where is Leviathan?"

Suddenly he spun round just as the wind whipped the rain behind him into a cyclone.  Fariel, who had been ghosting through the rain, reappeared and hurled a throwing knife.  It spun through the air towards Penance, who disdained to waste magic on a Dark Encampment Wall and ducked aside, his hand shooting out with demonic reflexes to catch the blade as it whispered past him."Ah, there you are," Penance said mildly, and Fariel rolled aside as a demon ball blasted a glowing crater in the stone behind her.  Examining the blade Penance saw that it glowed with the purple sheen of a potent venom, and his head snapped up as he locked eyes with Fariel.  She smirked, her eyes fixed on Penance's hand and the tiny cut the blade had made in his palm as purple lines began to creep up Penances arm, tracing the path of his veins.  The demon lord gritted his teeth in concentration, clenching his fist, until abruptly the marks of poison began to recede and vanish from his skin.  He threw the poisoned dagger contemptuously back at Fariel, but it just flew through her as she turned to water and splashed to the ground.

"Oh well, it was worth a try..." Fariel said as she reformed, collecting in a puddle between Neji and the two younger Angels and rising up out of the water, "So what did I miss, anything good?"

"Party's just starting." Neji growled.Four Avenging Angels faced one demon lord, powerful energies glowing and sparking about their respective weapons.

"You should give up now," Penance taunted them, "Like all the Angels before you, you underestimate my power.  Like all of them, you will fall.  I will etch my name in pain on each of your bodies, and then I will tear the power of the First Aeons from your mangled corpses and Spira will be mine."

"Even if it weren't for the Aeons we'd all still have a reason to be here, Penance." Neji called out, "You killed our friends and family.  You robbed Eevee of both her parents, you took Fariel's friends and her lover...you took my wife from me.  She's waiting in the Farplane for me, and when I see her again I will tell her how we rid the world of your evil!"

Penance laughed.

"Fools!  This is my hour.  Do you not know death when you see it?  Die now!"

<ooc - Should probably have Keiji explain to Eevee about Tsunami and stuff but this doesnt seem like the time :P Well, do what you want now, until you cant be bothered writing any more and then have the Aeons start opening the Void portal.

Just one point I'd like to make about how to handle this fight.  Penance does not rely on resilience.  It's not going to be like against Beelzebub where we threw attacks at him and he just stood there and took them because he knew they would bounce off.  Penance IS powerful but he's also fast and skilled, so he'll be dodging and dispelling attacks, reflecting spells, parrying blades at blinding speed and doing devastating sword combos.  Don't just use him as a target for cool attacks - give him some of his own. Remember that he has pretty much all the demon powers plus a bunch of random powers he nabbed off the elves and the Fayth (Aeon attacks?)>

(occ - This is very late, i've been watching advent children again too >.> lol)

Fariel hovered, staring down at the hulking beast. It roared loudly as a tidal wave charged him and the lesser demons around him. As it past, the demon looked around at the death, the wave had been a distraction, long shards of hard ice now sat in the throats of the other demons. The realisation hit him in time for him to raise his axe in defence.

"Eat this!" Fariel yelled as she sent an arc of ice plummeting towards him. Luckily for him, his axe saved his torso. Though his axe arm and opposite shoulder were torn through by the angels attack.

Fariel smiled, the demon stumbled back a few steps and growled, dragging the freezing objects from his limbs. Taking the opportunity Fariel sped towards the demon, ghosting through the rain.
Swords drawn, Fariel drove them through the demons chest. Bleeding, the demon fell to its knees, kicking off him, the angel withdrew her Swords and wrapped them in water, cleaning off the blood before placing them back in their sheaths.

"That was pathetic, big axe but no brains."" She mumbled, flapping her wings to take flight.

Just as she left the ground the demon grabbed her ankle and pulled bet back, spun her round and releasing her, sending her crashing into a pile of tall rocks near the purple flames. The demon stomped towards her slowly, breathing heavily, as the angel picked herself up.

"That was uncalled for." The demon finally fell as Fariel decorated him with holes. Turning the rain into ice and sending if all at him like bullets. "Honestly These things never learn"

Hearing an explosion, the angel turned to the roof, taking flight immediately as Leviathan warned her as to what was happening.

Penance unleashed a hurricane of demon balls.  The Angels hurled their own counter-spells and the strobing energy bolts criss-crossed across the castle roof.  Penance moved with inhuman speed, leaping from one angel to another in a continuous attack.  Fariel staggered back from a flying dropkick before she could even raise her swords in defence, and Penace kicked off her towards Eevee.  As a Dark Element Explosion came spiralling towards her she threw up her force lance in front of her face, golden light pulsing out from it in concentric rings to form a glowing Dyann Ra shield spell.  The demonic missile struck and the shield blazed white hot, beads of light criss-crossing over it to form a glowing hexagrammic ward that dissipated the force of the attack.  But another came, and another, Penance hurling the powerful spells as effortlessly as Demon Balls.  Faced with the relentless barrage Eevee found herself being battered backwards by the repeated impacts, her magical defence finally shattering in an implosion of multicoloured energy.  Instinctively she dodged into a Timeshift, twisting through the lethal energy beams as they slowed to a crawl around her.  The spears of black light ripped through the air centimetres from Eevee's skin, burning her with the nearness of their passing.  She screamed out loud as one Dark Element Explosion caught her a glancing blow, slamming her into the castle roof.

Chips of stone flew everywhere as Eevee was jolted back to real time.  She shook her head and flipped back onto her feet, reaching out with Tritoch's power so that her dropped force lance flew back to her hand.  Ahead Penace was duelling with Neji and Fariel, slowly driving them backwards with a fluid stream of attacks.  Fariel leapt back, wings spread wide for balance as Oblivion's blade scythed a glowing trail of purple fire through the air centimeters in front of her stomach.  Penance spun round in a roundhouse kick and his foot connected with Neji's jaw, swatting the powerful man backwards off the edge of the castle roof.

Eevee acted, darting forward in a black flash.  Unfortunately Penance's demonsense was more than a match for her Timeshift and she was clotheslined off her feet as Penance lashed out behind him.  Eevee flipped backwards as a pulse of demon magic pulverised the stone where she had been lying, only to hear Tritoch's Farsight scream a warning as Penance swept round behind her.  She spun round, twisting awkwardly to let a killing thrust of Oblivion's blade sear past her chest.  She continued the spin, the runes on her force lance lighting up in a blaze of power as she struck out at Penance's side.  The demon lord was fast, blocking with his forearm so that the staff's energy dissipated in an explosion of sparks.  Eevee spun back under a sweep of Oblivion's lightning edge, thrusting her staff forward towards Penance's chest and then into his unprotected face with her thumb firmly down on the firing rune.  Penance deflected both blows with ease, swatting the force-lance's point aside just enough for the bolts of magic that spat forth to streak past mere millimeters from his skin.  Eevee spun balletically and brought her staff round towards the side of Penance's head but once again he blocked, his armour absorbing the hit even as it discharged against his bracer with a flash like a lightning strike.  Then Oblivion flicked out, so fast even Eevee's Aeons couldn't react in time, and even as she tried to duck aside the crackling blade speared through her chest just below her right shoulder.  Eevee screamed.  Penance jerked the blade back, spinning Eevee to the ground.  Her force-lance dropped from her nerveless fingers as she instinctively clutched her other hand to the glowing, cauterized wound.

Fariel returned to the attack, extending her hands towards the driving rain around her and freezing it into jagged ice crystals that she hurled towards Penance as fast as bullets, but every one of the diamond-hard splinters shattered harmlessly against the Dark Encampment Wall spell that Penance called up to meet them.  He sent a pair of Black Dragon spells roaring towards Fariel, but she ghosted into the rain and separated either side of the coiling missiles, rising up again as herself and an identical water clone that both spread their wings and threw themselves at Penance in a whirlwind of blades.  Penance was driven back but Oblivion spun an impenetrable defence - the fire-wreathed blade slicing down through the water clone's blades before carving through the clone itself just as easily.  A single perfect slash cut the water clone open from shoulder to hip, water bursting from the wound, and the clone dropped like a stone as Penance spun full circle and brought his left fist hammering down on its shoulder, reducing the clone to a puddle of water in the cratered ground.  Penance sidestepped round the remaining Fariel, backslashing with his arm to sweep the Angel's feet out from under her even as he twirled Oblivion high above his head for the finishing blow.

But it never fell as Neji came rocketing in from the side, having caught himself in mid-fall off the side of the castle and flown back up to rejoin the fight.  He slammed into Penance and tackled him to the ground, the two half-demon warriors rolling away as the impact broke them apart.  Neji charged a Lightning Edge around his two swords and clashed blade to blade with Penance, his demonic swords the only weapon the Angels had that could survive contact with a Lightning Edge.  Neji launched skyward with a sweep of his powerful bat-wings and spun forward like a whirlwind, raining blows down on Penance while Fariel and Keiji tried to distract the demon lord with their spells.  Penance ducked and backflipped effortlessly through the bolts of magic even as he turned aside the Set sword and its partner with Oblivion, snarling at Neji through the roaring inferno of their respective Lightning Edges as they locked blades.  They pushed against each other, but then Penance kicked out, causing Neji to stumble, and suddenly Oblivion tore a crescent arc of blood from Neji's chest.

"NOOO!" Keiji screamed as blood jetted into the air, frozen in the strobing light of spell-casts.  Neji went down hard on his back, Diablos fighting desperately to re-knit his host's body even as Neji himself forced his shredded nerves to obey and raised the Set sword against Oblivion's killing blow.  Neji was weakened by his wound and Penance beat down his parry, Oblivion sliding down Set's blade to split the stone beside Neji's head.  Penance snarled, forcing Oblivion's edge down towards Neji's throat, the crackling blade blistering Neji's skin as it drew nearer.

Streaking in from the side came Keiji, aiming a high kick at Penance's chest, only to have the demon lord sweep him contemptuously aside.  But in the momentary distraction, Neji had recovered just enough energy to charge a Lightning Edge around his right hand.  As the red flames welled up with a sound like an inferno, he rammed his fist forwards into Penance's stomach, sending him flying back in an explosion of released energy.

Penance went down hard on his back, his four wings crumpled under him.  He doubled up in pain, coughed blood.  But as he took his hands away from his stomach, Neji saw that the black plates of his armour were unbroken.  Penance smiled wolfishly, wiping the trickle of blood from his mouth and regripping Oblivion.

"No way!" Keiji protested, turning to his father.

"It's the jewel." Neji replied grimly, "It's flooding his armour with protective demonic energy.  Even Lightning Edge won't be enough to break it."

"This armour is indestructible!" Penance taunted them, "You cannot beat me, Neji!"

This time it was Neji whose lip curled in a predatory smile.

"Maybe not.  But I've just proved for the second time that I can make you bleed."

Penance snarled, and threw himself at Neji.  Neji and Keiji spread their leathery wings and the three spiraled up into the sky, the three swords and Keiji's knuckle-dusters flashing in the dark as they traded blows.

Fariel was still on the ground helping Eevee to her feet.

"You okay?" she asked, placing her hand over Eevee's shoulder and calling up a swirling mass of magical water to supplement her god-daughter's own healing spells.

"Fine...I'm fine..." Eevee gasped back, pulling herself upright and regripping her force lance in both hands.

"What do you say we go help the boys kick his arse?" Fariel grinned.

"I can't kick properly in a skirt but I'm with you in principle..."

A flicker of a smile crossed both Angels' faces as they crouched, spread their wings, and launched themselves skyward.

(occ - Threw this together outa bordom, thought it would be fun to hurt Fariel a bit. We're in class for another hour and a half without a teacher...kinda sucks XD lol So yeah, bored. And about the sword enchantments at the end, it's nicked from a book or manga or something, canna remember which, but its an enchantment that stops them from being damaged or broken.)

Keijis punch clashed against Oblivion, Penance sweeping the sword forward sent the teenager speeding back through the air, Penance moved to chase after him but Neji blocked his way, sparks flew as their swords scrapped against each other, "Are you slowing down?" Neji taunted, distracting the demon as Eevee time shifted up behind him, Fariel ghosting to her side.

Eevee charged up one of her well practised elfish lighting spells as Fariel brought the rains together with summoned water. Combining their attacks, Fariels water charged forwards, Eevees lightning wrapping around it as it flew.

Penance who still hovered with Oblivion locked against Nejis sword faulted as Neji folded in his wings and dropped away, "Cowards!" Penance yelled as Keiji and Neji both cleared the demons vicinity.

Ice, water and lightning hammered into Penances back, rain came down on him like bullets and even Eevee flinched with explosions lit up the sky. "Thats going to leave a mark." Fariel grinned.

"What did you do?" Eevee looked at her slyly.

"I borrowed a couple things from the good General." Fariel held up a small remote that had detonated the explosives that Fariel had sent out with the attack.

Though quickly the remote was dropped and abandoned, Fariels hand grabbing the hilt of her sword and drawing it faster then Eevee could follow, her aeon shouting warnings, Penance appeared before the pair, Fariel moved in front of her god child and threw her out the way. Oblivion came down hard from above Penances head, Fariels sword rose in defence as she reached for the other.

Fariel stabbed towards Penance with her second sword but it fell short as Oblivion clashed against her first. A crack shot through the blade from the force and broke, "FARIEL!" Eevee yelled as she managed to gather her thoughts after being thrown aside.

The young angel gasped as half of Fariels sword fell out the sky, blood sprayed out as oblivion cut down the centre of Fariels chest and stomach, Penance grinned victoriously. Leviathan shouted out as he tried to heal the wound as quickly as possible.

Neji came speeding in at that point, sword raised, causing Penance to retreat away from Leviathans host and defend himself. Eevee time shifted to Fariels aid as she started to fall out the sky despite her efforts to flap her wings. "Eevee, help Neji, Im alright" Fariel breathed pushing Eevee away, directing herself towards the castle roof and landing as gracefully as possibly.

"That hurt...a lot..." Fariel moaned, casting healing spells to help Leviathan. She looked at her broken sword, "Damn." She cursed, throwing it aside. "Looks like his sword can break through my enchantments."  The watery shimmer that surrounded her sword was gone, it was an old spell that Leviathan had talked about, it protected blades from damage, made them unbreakable.  Placing the half sword back in it's sheath she secured it in place with the clips she used when flying.  "Leviathan..."  She realised that there was now a large hole in her shirt, "This is a bit revealing..."

(occ - lol poor humour)

"Focus, Fariel." Leviathan chided. Fariel looked up towards the continuing battle and saw her friends and Penance as dark specks amongst the whirling violence of the thunderstorm, wheeling and somersaulting through the air as they dodged the spells they were hurling at each other. Now and then Penance and one of the Angels would streak past each other and there would be an explosive flash of energy as Oblivion clashed against Neji's swords or Keiji's enchanted gloves. Eevee fanned her wings and fired a stream of energy bolts from her glowing force lance, but Penance read her attack perfectly and jinked aside from each arrow of white light in turn. Now he was duelling with all three opponents at once, Oblivion spinning a deadly cyclone round its master. Neji swung backhand at Penance but the demon lord ducked under the raking spikes on the back of Neji's bracer, and now a shockwave of black light hurled Neji and Eevee back through the air and Penance was fighting Keiji, drifting back through the storm-wracked clouds as he turned aside every punch and kick with his free hand.

"Still can't hit me, young demon?" he sneered, "Still using all the muscles except the one that counts?"

And he raised Oblivion in his other hand and stabbed down, forcing Keiji to beat his wings and recoil from the killing thrust.

Fariel saw it all. Keiji, shouting incoherently as he threw punch after punch at Penance. Eevee, whose force lance bolts seemed to be moving slower than if she had thrown them. Neji was tiring from the battle and as he tried to summon the strength for a Demonic Burst Edge a mighty swing of Oblivion beat down his defences and sent him tumbling from the sky, leaving just Keiji and Eevee airborne. They flew upwards together in the wake of a barrage of high magic and demonic spells. Eevee put up a hand and caught one of the lightning bolts flashing around them, redirecting it towards Penance. Keiji brought his hands together in a massive Black Dragons spell and hurled it at the demon lord. But with a gesture Penance summoned a shield of black energy that dissipated both attacks, and then the Dark Encampment Wall parted and down swooped Penance with his wings tucked in close, purple lightning crackling around his arms before he unleashed a Dark Element Explosion from each fist. The twin beams of black energy barrelled into Keiji and Eevee before they could jink aside, striking them head on.

The spell punched into Eevee like a massive fist, a magical hammerblow that sent her streaking back down towards the castle. The leading edge of the beam sparked and blazed against the shield spell hovering a few centimetres above Eevee's forearms where they were crossed protectively in front of her face, but the momentum of the spell still drove her relentlessly downwards and a searing fireball carved a crater in the castle roof as she was hurled down against it. A dark ripple swept outward through the surrounding stones, causing them to crack and splinter like chalk.

Keiji gritted his teeth and pushed back against the beam boring into him, fighting Penance's demonic energy with his own, but with all his power now unleashed Penance was the stronger. A bright light pulsed from the jewel on his chest and a surge of power swept along the beam of light connecting him and Keiji, the magical backlash hurling the young Angel away. Slabs of black stone leapt into the air as Keiji was mercilessly slammed into the castle roof.

Penance swooped down to see his opponents lying in smoking craters, their bodies broken on the anvil of his sorcery. He laughed.

But the Angels were stirring. Slowly, laboriously, but insistently, Neji dragged himself to his feet and stood by Fariel. Keiji followed, staggering upright even as his eye filled with blood from a gash across his forehead. Eevee's black jacket was streaked grey with dust and mixed rivulets of sweat and blood were running down her face, but she reached up and grabbed Keiji's hand and he helped pull her upright. She shrugged off the rain-soaked trench coat and stood in her black skirt and strapless top next to Keiji and the others. With a flick of her wrist her force lance telescoped out to its full size, the runes along its length glowing silently. Keiji raised his fists defiantly and dropped to a battle-ready crouch. Neji summoned the strength to heft his weapons once again, and the rain hissed as it vaporised on the twin sword blades. And Fariel, her clothes ripped and torn, raised her one remaining wave sword in her right hand, her face a mask of grim determination. Bright glowing auras burned defiantly round all four of them like an outline of holy fire.

"Why delay the inevitable?" Penance asked them, his raven-black hair plastered to his head by the rain, arcs of magical discharge sparking from Oblivion's overcharged blade, his feather-edged cloak whipping round him in the howling wind, "Why keep fighting?  Because your 'destiny' demands that you prolong your suffering?"

"No," Keiji answered him, spitting blood onto the ground, "Because we choose to."

A smile tugged at the corner of the demon lord's mouth.

"So be it."

Ribbons of demonic power whirled round Penance like a solar system of red and purple energy bolts. He rose into the air, raising his arms above his head then spreading them wide as he gathered his power.

And then, in a terrific blast, he unleashed it.

Penance shot upwards like a spear of black light, growing and growing until the fabric of reality tore apart around him as it tried and failed to contain the raw demonic energies. Eevee's force lance clattered to the ground as she gripped her head, an anarchic howling piercing her mind like a white-hot spear. The psychic cacophony would have shredded her mind had it not been for the much stronger minds of Ramuh and Tritoch shielding hers. The howling subsided and she looked up. Penance was looking down on them contemptuously in his full demon form, his eyes two glowing yellow pools of malice at the centre of a whirling mass of black shadows, above which could just be seen the curved outlines of two great horns.

"You will have to summon us." Eevee heard Ramuh say in a level voice.

"Which is exactly what he wants." she replied.

"But we have no choice."

There was no time for further argument. With a sound like an earthquake, Penance thrust his clawed hands downward and roared:

"DARK MESSENGER!"

Retala stood ontop a near collapsed building over looking the the flaming ruins which was once Bevelle, now a pale comparaision to its formal glory, the streets were cast in a forever darkness brought to life by the rattle of gun fire the heavy booms from expolsions and flashes of magic from the remaining elves trying desperatly to protect the innocents and assits they're Spiran allies. Screams of suffering and fear could be heard as the demons over ran the city putting preasure on the few remaining safe places, over by the harbor Penance's forces had forced they're way onto shore devestating the sea defenders, guard troops lead by General Beni backed up by Baralie's Yevon monks had organised a line to stop the invaders from getting past the port but it was a desperate battle and won which was impossible to win.

Retala fixed his gaze to Penance keep, the keep was surronded by dark clouds swirling it as if even the sky itself watched on anxiously at the battle below. Suddenly Penance full demonic form burst out from the castle, a huge demon which could even be seen at full detail from where Retala was.

"It's all up to you angels," Retala said collapsing to his knee and punching the ground. "Damn it! All I had to do was hold Bevelle and I couldn't even do that! Laconfir why did you give one as imcompitdent as me the title High Priest?"

"Do not dispare Retala," Laconfir voice rang in Retala's head.

"Laconfir!?"

"Do not give up so easily, you are only looking at whats infront of you, look closely at the details, from here Bevelle has fallen but there are those who still fight and will not give up, if you could only see what I see, now close your eyes and concentrate,"

Retala closed his eyes and let Laconfir guild his minds eye, in his head he saw whats left of the forces of Bevelle, Humans, Guado, Albed and Ronso all standing together fighting despite what ever wounds they take, on port he saw General Beni shoulder tackle a demon to the ground and then driving his sword into the creatures chest, his left hand hung loosely had his side rendered useless by a wound, else where even the innocents of Spira and taken what they could to defend themselves and they're homes, merging into the Bevelle forces ranks who were leading civillians to the remaining safe house, the Bevelle temple.

"Now do you see? Spira has not yet given up, and there is hope for them all, just listen to what I have to say, Lady Yuna is in trouble somewhere in Bevelle, find her quickly and bring her to the Bevelle temple,"

"But where is she?"

"I can not tell, she is hiding a building with her guardian thats all I know,"

"right away!"

Meanwhile up in the sky, the Bevelle air forces had a breif victory with the defeat of Set but the demonic forces of Penance were back putting extreme pressure on the over stretched forces, on the Shadow Zell spun his pistol, it spinning off his finger as the ship rattled violently.

"Thats another hit!" Kain yelled back at Zell and Gau.

"With no power we won't last much longer once Alia's shield falls," Gau said accepting his fate.

"Yep we had a good run but looks like we're going down," Zell smiled

"How the hell can you guys be so calm!?" Alia complained, "I'm far to young to die!"

"Hey we're just glad we ain't fighting that!" Zell said pointing out the ships window at the overgrown Penance.

"Well some of us have when he first appeared but he seems bigger somehow, I'm glad I ain't over there," Gau said the entire crew agreeing with him.

"How the hell can you all be so calm!"

Zell smiled, "You obviously don't have faith in the others, don't blame ya you don't know that lot like we do, they won't lose I'm sure of it, so just relax and give them time."

Alia took a deep breath and sat on the metal ground, "I hate waiting,"

"Yeh that bit kinda sucks," Gau laughed "But what can we do, we've done all we can for now,"

"Yeh if it wasn't for us Set would of wiped Bevelle off the map in seconds, and the angels would have nothing to defend, thats a pretty good feat, if I do say so myself, so lets just take it easy and feel good about the difference we've made,"

"Captains!" A crew man should bursting into the bridge, Zell sighed and got to his feet, "Whats it now?"

"The Necro orb is acting strange!" Gau's eyes widened.

"What?!" he said pushing past the crewman followed by Alia and Zell.

In the storage room the Necro glowed with a green and purple light, circled by a purple mist, coming from it was a soft voice.

"Em, hello? hello? Gau are you there?"

"Melina?!" Zell shouted approaching the orb and picking it up to have a closer look.

"Oh Zell, it's great to hear your voice again," Melina's voice said her face appearing on the orb.

"Who the hell's she?" Alia asked with hint of jealousy.

"Thats Neji late wife and Keiji's late mother,"

"Oh thats ok then,"

"Melina what are you doing?"

"I have a mission for you all, from Laconfir, I need you to bring the Necro orb to Bevelle temple and bring it to Yuna,"

"Why?"

"No time just do it," Melina said her voice fading along with the light in the necro orb.

<Call it thread necromancy but AA2 is back biggrin Funny the things you'll do to avoid studying isn't it?>

The massive ball of energy hurtled downwards, its magical bow wave rending the air into shards of lightning and leaving a fiery contrail in its wake. The impact whiplashed down through the castle, causing demonic stone to warp and crack and sending the ghostly skulls saturating its walls screaming in all directions. Four vast shapes soared up out of the holocaust, riding out the shockwave and silhouetted against the expanding fireball they were only just outrunning. Abruptly, the purple flames were sucked back in by the explosion overpressure and the First Aeons were revealed. Tritoch, his golden feathers reflecting an oil-streak shimmer of colour, rose up on a slipstream of ice and lightning with Eevee riding between his shoulder-blades. Beside them flew Ramuh, his grey robes swirling round him in the gale-force wind. The glare from his staff illuminated a face of immeasurable age and even greater power. Leviathan corkscrewed through the air with graceful coils of his sinuous body. A watery sheen made his silvery-blue scales glitter like chain mail, and Fariel was holding tight to his finned head. Diablos spread his vast bat's wings and roared his defiance, a sound that was matched by the warshout of his host beside him. Far smaller than them all but generating a crackling magical aura just as powerful was Keiji, streaking up like a thunderbolt with rapid beats of his leathery wings.

Penance laughed, and the thick black clouds around him shredded as he called up his power in a flurry of spinning white circles.

"First of the Aeons! It has been too long! Finally your power shall be mine!"

Neji, recognising Penance's most powerful attack, shouted a warning to the others. At that very moment, the halos of light exploded and spears of demon energy stabbed forward, ripping apart the worn-thin veil between dimensions and leaving purple rents in the sky in their wake, bleeding raw demon world essence into Spira that spread out and infected the clouds, turning them blood red.

Diablos spread his arms wide and a glittering purple hexagram seared itself onto the air before him. The other Aeons poured their magic into the defence, and when the ravening energy beams struck it the impact shockwave drove the rain in all directions in a swirling mass, but when the sphere of water lost cohesion and collapsed to the ground with a mighty splash it was the Angels' defence that had prevailed.

A titanic battle followed, both sides summoning vast magical energies to blast the other. Penance sought to shred the minds of the Angels with his magic even as he tried to shred the four First Aeons with his claws. The Aeons darted in and out, discharging thunderbolts of multicoloured magic into the swirling blackness surrounding Penance. Eevee called upon Shemash Caman - Nature's Fury - and all the lightning in the sky thundered down at her command to be channelled by Ramuh against Penance, while Tritoch corkscrewed up through the white daggers of light Penance was hurling, fanned his wings and unleashed a twisting slipstream of magic from the other side. Propelled by a tidal wave summoned by Leviathan, Fariel leapt from her Aeon's back to dive, headfirst and spinning, into the centre of the shadows while the other Angels followed suit. Neji's swords and Eevee's force lance flashed in the darkness, and then there was a brilliant surge of white light.

A nuclear flash enveloped the scene. A blast front of ash and smoke swept out across the Calm Lands, followed by a series of shockwaves that made the ground buckle and heave. The earth rippled like water, and massive fissures snaked out across the land as spires of rock were thrust upwards only to crash down again and smash themselves apart. The fabric of space and time was torn to ribbons - howling vortexes dominated the sky, gaping holes in the air that whipped the wind and rain around them into whirlpools of darkness.

In the centre of the devastation stood Penance's castle, many of its dragon-toothed battlements crumbled and cast down by the energies unleashed. On the wide stone plateau of the castle roof, from which Penance had planned to watch his final victory over Spira, 5 figures lay crumpled and exhausted.

Penance, beaten back to his Atellian form, had fallen to one knee, his four wings hunched raggedly over him and Oblivion hanging loosely in his grip, its purple glow diminished. His breath was coming in deep, shuddering gasps.

The four Angels could not even summon the energy to stand, their magic depleted, their minds exhausted and their bodies battered by the relentless struggle. Neji's vision swam elusively in and out of focus and he had to fight to hold on to consciousness. He raised himself up onto his elbows, his arms shaking with the effort, and saw the Set sword lying by his side and a little further away Penance, who was slowly rising to his feet. The jewel at his chest was pulsing rapidly, sending waves of red light across his body. Slowly, it was returning strength to his limbs, and the Angels had no power left to fight him.

Penance let out a ragged laugh, limping slowly towards Neji and the others, but becoming more confident and assertive with every step.

"I admit that you have impressed me," he said quietly, "But it ends here."

The demon lord raised his head and roared his triumph.

"The power of the First Aeons...is...MINE!"

Neji felt an invisible fist close around his mind as Penance reached out with the power of the jewel to rip Diablos out of him. He raised Oblivion to strike.

But as the sword swept down there was a flurry of sparks as a second blade intercepted it. Neji felt the grip round his soul slacken and he looked up, confused. A long, straight blade had crossed with Oblivion and halted it in mid-strike. Looking at the engraving of a wolf on its blade, Neji realised that it was a sword he knew. Silver wolf.

His gaze travelled up the blade of the elven sword he had once owned, past the gold-chased crosspiece and the long-fingered hand gripping the hilt, up an arm swathed in black robes to a hooded, scarred face, at the centre of which two almond-shaped eyes burned gold.

"Tanis?" Neji gasped, unable to process what he was seeing.

With a flick of his wrist their elven guide disengaged Penance's sword and threw the demon lord back. Penance snarled in anger, unable to explain the half-elf's sudden appearance, and he started forward to strike but a second figure ghosted in from the side and kicked him squarely in the chest, knocking him onto his back. Neji's head whipped round to the second figure, who was dressed identically to Tanis, but their hood was thrown back and from their long flowing hair and soft features Neji could see that the newcomer was female. She glanced at Neji and with shock he saw that she was the spitting image of Fariel, albeit with pointed elven ears and burning yellow eyes.

Fariel herself gasped in shock. This made no sense - Tanis was dead, killed at the battle of Luca, and Selina was dead too, killed by Tanis himself...how were they here, and more importantly why were they fighting side-by-side when in life the half-elven outcast and his fallen sister had been the bitterest of enemies?

"Tanis!" Eevee exclaimed from beside Keiji, "But how...?"

The unsent Tanis turned towards them, the mocking half-smile they knew so well tugging at the corner of his mouth.

"I'm playing my part as your guide one final time. Sorry I'm late - I was gathering allies."

"Allies?" Fariel echoed in confusion.

"I figured that it would be better for the dead to join our ranks than for us to be forced to join theirs. With a little help from Summoner Yuna, here we are."

Around them a host of shadowy figures appeared, many of whom the Angels recognised. Neji stared in disbelief; the summoning of the dead was considered unnatural by the elves, and even in these desperate times only Tanis would have considered it. Despite this, all the unsent now gathered around them looked determined to play their part. There was Laconfir, tall and stately in robes of deep blue threaded with gold. Next to him was the half-Atellian Lady Rayne who had given Fariel her shape-shifter bracers, blue tattoos looping elegantly either side of her face and down her neck. Captain Kerek, a Ronso of imposing size in any case, bulked up even further by the armour he wore. Beside him captain Hartlock, a laconic smile on her face, tossing her red hair back out of her eyes. They and their men had died in the battle between Kebel and the Guard that had been cunningly manipulated by Penance to make his takeover of Spira that much easier. And there were four of the five Atellian Angels, who had been killed by Beelzebub. Sorata, Revast and Haldir looked determined, while Ghanima looked at Neji and smiled.

"Tell Zell and Alia that we wish them well."

Beside the four previous Angels were ranked other figures - elves, humans and winged Atellians - all the Angels who had been host to the First Aeons and used their powers to protect Spira against Penance and Sin. The only two who were not there were Feyd and Sonya Kobie, and beside him Keiji heard Eevee give a dry sob.

Neji recognised Seifer the swordsman, and the mage Chouji, former captain of the Highwind who had sacrificed himself to save others at the first battle of the Calm Lands, as well as other former members of his crew.

"While you fought Penance's armies on the mortal coil," Tanis explained, "I travelled the Farplane, seeking out the spirits of our greatest heroes and journeying down to the darkest depths of the Farplane to rescue the souls exiled there. There I met my sister, and I convinced her and others that it was not too late to repent what they had done, so they could earn the right to walk the paradise side of the Farplane as free spirits."

Fariel looked from Tanis to Selina and back again, until suddenly her eye was caught by two men standing side by side at the end of the line of unsent. One was dressed in a black thief's jumpsuit, the other in loose dark fatigues, but both were so similar in the face and in posture that there could be no doubt that they were brothers.

"Jacen!" she gasped.

Jacen Locke smiled slightly, "I was killed a few hours ago in Bevelle. As soon as I got to the Farplane Tanis found me, and I insisted he help me find my brother. When we finally did, I managed to convince him to let go."

Beside Jacen, Kerr stood at ease with his hands in his pockets, his dark hair spiked and a smile on his face, but not a cruel sarcastic smile. It was Kerr as he had been when Fariel had worked with him in Luca, when they had been friends as well as rivals, before revenge had consumed him.

"Hiya Fari," he said, "Maybe both of us were in the wrong, but it doesn't matter now, and I'm sorry."

The brothers parted to allow a line of figures to step through. Fariel gasped as she recognised the Kebellians killed in the Custodian attack - Breezer, Lei, Faber, Dante's brother Zeke...tears filled her eyes as she looked at the handsome young man leading them.

"Larek..."

He smiled kindly, stepping forward and putting up a hand to stroke her cheek. She clapped a hand on top of his and let the tears flow.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry I failed you..."

"Shhhh," Larek soothed her, "You did all you could. You know I love you no matter what."

But they were forced to break apart as on the other side of the castle roof Penance was stirring and pulling himself to his feet.

"What is this!?" he shouted, caught between anger and the closest thing to fear that a demon could feel as he raised Oblivion towards the unsent surrounding him. Nothing like this had appeared in his visions.

"Our power is yours, Angels," said Haldir, "Now finish this."

As one, all of the dead Avenging Angels held up their hands and white light poured from them into Neji, Fariel, Eevee and Keiji. Instantly they felt stronger as the soul-power of their predecessors coursed through them. They formed up facing Penance, and Fariel found herself standing between Larek and Selina. She glanced at the elf, still unsettled by the uncanny resemblance they shared. Selina noticed her apprehensive scrutiny, and as she twirled her katana into a two-handed grip next to her face she glanced at Fariel and smiled.

"Did Tanis never tell you the reason we look so alike?"

Fariel shook her head.

"As you know my father was not the fine upstanding elf he presented to the rest of the Ellessar community. He was a twisted sadist who let his baser desires rule him. I eventually killed him to put a stop to his twisted ways, and in taking his soul to gain enough power to destroy Tanis, who I still believed to be a traitor at the time, I became that which I sought to destroy..."

She blinked, her elven expression unreadable. Fariel thought better than to press her.

"Anyway before I killed him, Tanis' mother was not the only human that my father raped. I don't know how many bastard children he sired, but your mother Duenan was one of them."

"My mother was half-elven? But she didn't have pointy ears, or funny eyes, or..."

She tailed off as Selina raised a slightly-affronted eyebrow at her.

"Which genes dominate in a half-elven child varies considerably from case to case. As it was, your mother showed no physical signs of her heritage, and neither did you, although it seems you both retained the agility of our kind. But if you saw pictures of my father, you would see me in him, and apparently his appearance skipped a generation and passed on to you too. It was that more than anything else that drew Tanis to you in Luca seventeen years ago. And when Yendor looked into my brother's mind and saw that he loved you, it was the love and protectiveness towards his half-niece that he was seeing."

"So I'm...?"

"One quarter elf. Which explains your fast reflexes and your aptitude for magic."

"And that makes you...?"

"Your half-aunt, yes."

"Small world." Fariel shrugged, and fixed her eyes on Penance.

All had finally gathered at the Bevelle temple, the only save house left in Bevelle, the remaining Bevelle forces made a tight line along the long road leading to the only enterence, bared shut to keep the innocent and wounded save. The Penance's forces now had complete control of the city and things were looking bleak.

Desperatly the leaders of Spira rallyed there men when there came a shout from down the road.

"Heeeeeeey!" Zell shouted, Alia and Gau at his side, Gau clutching onto a glowing orb. Behind them was a group of demons.

"Drop!" Beni shouted to Zell who immediatly forced Gau and Alia's towards the ground. "Fire!" Beni and a line of Guard troops opened fire the bullets tearing into the demons behind Zell. "Now hurry!" Zell pushed Alia and Gau to there feet and turned round pistol drawn and fired into two demons the magical bullets tearing into the demons with ease. Stepping out of the crowd Yendor threw his open palm forward casting up a mighty shield, the pursing demons ran clean into the shield bouncing back and then bagan to pound on it.

"What took you so long?" Yendor said to Zell who was resting his hands on his knees trying to find breath.

"I just ran through a demon infested city!" he snapped back, "Carrying an orb which quess what? Attracts demon!"

"Ok ok, just hurry and bring it to the temple, Yuna and Retala are waiting,"

"Go Gau," Gau nodded and ran towards the temple the few remaining forces parting to let him through. The doors of the temple were pushed open before Gau and standing in the main all was Retala and Yuna, her guardian Tidus close to the door.

"Ah Gau, thank goodness we thought the demons might of got you,"

"Me? Come on Retala?"

"Now give Yuna the orb," Retala turned to Yuna as the orb was placed in front of her the purple light illuminating her face. "Have no fear Lady Yuna, all you must do is listen to the voice inside the orb and rest will take care of itself, we are counting on you. Gau let us return to the front lines," Yuna nodded and forcused on the orb while Retala led Gau out the temple, Tidus gave Yuna a final look before nodding to her and following Gau.

Neji, Fariel, Keiji and Eevee raised their arms above their heads and disappeared in halos of light as the ranks of Unsent surrounding them surged forwards and bore down on Penance like a tidal wave. Penance roared his fury as blades slashed down towards him from all directions; ducking and spinning through the melee he brought up Oblivion to parry attack after attack, but though none of the Unsent could land a blow on him the demon lord was being forced steadily backwards, unable despite his consummate skill to find an opening to strike back. A cataclysmic Black Shockwave bought him a few seconds respite, but soaring towards him now were four great glowing forms, avatars of magical fire. All four Aeons released a single blast of magic and then slammed into Penance; Leviathan's teeth, Diablos' sword, Ramuh's staff and Tritoch's talons striking simultaneously at the centre of Penances chest. Arcs of power corkscrewed in all directions, and the black armour cracked.

"NO!" Penance roared, staggering back as purple light poured from the rents in his armour. Everything around him whited out in a brilliant flash, and out of the light came Keiji, leaping forward in a powerful double kick. A corona of lambent flame boiled around the young Angel as he knocked Penance back, his lightning-gloved hand reaching down and tearing the great jewel from the centre of Penance's breastplate as the impenetrable armour burst in pieces.

Penance screamed in anger as Keiji kicked off him, turned a handspring and backflipped out of his reach.

"Eevee, destroy it!" he shouted as he landed, throwing the gemstone at the girl's feet. Penance was already streaking forward towards Eevee, wings beating furiously as he scattered the Unsent in his path. All four Aeons turned to Eevee, their power flowing into her force lance as visible ribbons of iridescent light as she spun it downwards to point at the jewel. Penance landed with the force of a thunderbolt, cracking the stone underfoot, Oblivion raised to strike. There was a flash like lightning as Eevee fired her lance at the jewel.

A terrific explosion left all the combatants bleeding from their ears, and the shockwave that swept out across the castle roof knocked them all off their feet. The power that had been trapped within the jewel by Penance flew outwards in a cyclone of ghostly shapes. The forms of mortals, demons and Fayth soared free, their combined voices an overpowering shriek, before dissolving into a blizzard of pyraflies and vanishing from sight.

Totally blind and deaf for several seconds, Eevee picked herself up, feeling as if an iron vice had constricted her ribcage and pressed her eyes back into their sockets. Almost instantly, Keiji and the others were by her side, while Penance was kneeling at the epicentre of the blast, his hand clawing at the shattered fragments of his jewel. Slowly, he rose to his feet and fixed the Angels with eyes that burned like purple fire.

"You will suffer for this!" he shouted, "I still have enough power to destroy you!"

"Suffering," Eevee spat in reply, "Is that all you know how to bring?"

The First Aeons continued to circle above them, the army of Unsent standing grimly below with all eyes on Penance. Infused with the soul-power of all of them, the Angels felt the memories and emotions of their predecessors as if they were their own.

"You have taken everything from everyone who ever stood in the way of your ambition!" Keiji shouted, standing next to Eevee with his fist closed around the Oathkeeper hanging at his neck, "Not only lives but hopes and dreams!"

"Do you remember any of them?" Fariel challenged the demon lord, "You never saw their faces, never read the feelings of those who lost everything they'd ever loved, and died in despair because of you."

We are their wrath. Leviathan echoed, coiling his powerful serpent's body through the air above Fariel.

"We are the guilt you never felt." boomed Ramuh, his staff pointed towards Penance in one hand as the slipstreams of magic coursing around him blew the white hair and beard around his ancient face, lit from within by the glowing white of his eyes.

We are the lives and hopes and loves of all those you killed! cried Tritoch as he soared upwards and fanned his wings, causing them to glow in a terrifying display of light and colour.

The dazzling beams shone down on his host, Eevee, who was standing by Keiji and was also clutching her Oathkeeper so hard that her knuckles were white. Her face was frightening - part fury, part terrible pain, all fierce determination - all mixed together in a tempest of emotion.

"I am the hope of the Atellians, she cried above the howling gale of magical wind that the Aeons were creating around themselves, "Who all died save those who bowed down to you. I am the love of all the families you shattered - Elves, Guado, Ronso, Al'bed! I am the sacrifice of all the other Angels. I," a tear ran down her cheek, "Am the sacrifice of my mum and dad. You can't keep us hidden any more."

"Stop..." the demon whispered.

"That's what we all said to you. This is our revenge."

A look of horror crossed Penance's face as the four First Aeons swept past him, combining their powers in a whirlpool of multicoloured energies. It began to spin, faster and faster, and then it imploded with a deafening concussion and in its place appeared a howling vortex. Penance tore his eyes away from the swirling black mass behind him, looking back at the Angels who were now advancing towards him while the First Aeons and the Unsent stood watching. The sky behind them was on fire, purple thunderstorms roiling overhead as the demon world continued to bleed through the many holes in reality, but the shining light of the Aeons eclipsed all.

"Be gone!" Neji shouted, throwing a clenched fist forward so that Penance was blasted back by a shockwave of demon magic. Penance dug Oblivion into the stone between his feet, trying to fight the inexorable pull of the vortex behind him.

"No!" he shouted, trying to hurl a spell of his own towards the four Angels. Now the Angels surrounded him, but still he refused to be banished to the Void without a fight. Neji stood before him, his hair tugging in the strong wind as the vortex continued to try and pull them in. Penance looked up at him with a face contorted with hate.

"This is my world!" he hissed.

"This," Neji snarled, planting a booted foot on Penance's chest, "Is Spira."

<ooc - I'm sorry!  I DID try to resist!>

With an explosive motion he kicked Penance backwards. Oblivion tore free of the castle roof and Penance tumbled back, still gripping it. With his free hand he seized Keiji, pulling the young Angel off his feet. Eevee reached out and grabbed Keiji's other arm to try and pull him back, but the gravity well of the vortex was two strong. Before anyone could react all three of them fell, spinning and buffeted by the slipstream, into the roiling black heart of the maelstrom.

"Keji!" Neji yelled in horror, and Fariel screamed, "Eevee!" but with a black flash the vortex collapsed in on itself and they were gone.

Eevee stirred. The last thing she remembered was Keiji's hand slipping away from hers, and then tumbling alone through the darkness. Had she blacked out? She must have.

Eevee opened her eyes. She was lying face down on a smooth, pale surface that stretched away for what seemed like an eternity. It was impossible to tell how far away the horizon was, as it blurred seamlessly with the pale sky. Multicoloured lights swirled through the material under her, and as she made to get up they reacted to her movement, streaks of colour sliding away from her hands as she pressed into the material. They looked like iridescent snakes slithering through oil. The surface was translucent and dimly reflective, giving Eevee the uncomfortable feeling that she was standing on a thin film of ice atop a very deep ocean. She looked up, and saw that the sky was a swirling mass streaked through with the same coloured lights. They swept across it in pulses, from left to right, twisting and whirling so violently overhead that she felt she was tipping along with them and had to look away, feeling sick.

Her force lance was lying deactivated close by. She stooped and closed her hand round it, rising quickly and turning a full circle. There was no-one else in sight, only the bizarre landscape stretching away endlessly in every direction.

"Keiji!" she shouted, but there was no response, not even an echo.

A sound like thunder rumbled overhead. The sky above began to split apart, black holes opening up in the shimmering air. They crackled ominously, twisting dark wormholes leading to Aeons only knew what dimensions. Eevee looked on fearfully. They looked just like the vortexes that had split the sky over Spira, just like the one that she, Keiji and Penance had fallen through to get to...wherever this was.

Where am I? she thought, expecting one of her Aeons to offer some insight. But none came.

Ramuh? she probed, slightly harder, Tritoch?

Silence.

Unnerved now, she turned around again.

"Hello?" she shouted, "Anyone?"

The sky crackled balefully in response.

"Eevee?"

She snapped round, and saw a dark figure appear as if out of a heat haze, running towards her.

"Keiji," she sighed in relief as he got close enough to recognise. His face was still bloody from the gash across his forehead but he was alright, "What happened? Where are we?"

Keiji looked around, just as confused as she was.

"Is this the Void?"

"I don't think so..." Eevee said slowly.

"Then where are we?"

"I dont know. I can't get in touch with Ramuh or Tritoch. It's like they've just vanished from my head."

"Might be the magic-draining effect this place seems to have."

"What?"

"Can't you feel it? I feel...diminished. Like when we first approached the Void portal, only much worse."

Eevee felt herself go cold. Now that Keiji pointed it out, it wasn't just the reassuring presence of her Aeons that seemed to be missing from her mind. It was like the channels of power that had flowed into her so easily ever since Guadosalam had been suddenly severed. According to Ramuh and Tritoch, the Void had this effect. It was what made it such an effective prison.

"I still don't think we're in the Void though," she reasoned, fighting down her fear, "Maybe in a dimension closer to it than the one Spira's in...and being so close might be why it's leeching our powers...but this isn't how Ramuh and Tritoch described the Void to me."

"So where are we then?" Keiji asked again.

Eevee frowned, beginning to pace, "Back in Spira...the overlap between our world and the demon world that Penance started was causing vortexes all over the place. All of reality must have been torn to shreds. So maybe other dimensions overlapped too, and instead of falling into the Void we ended up here."

She spread her arms, "Wherever 'here' is."

Keiji flexed his fingers, glancing around the shining landscape warily.

"Do you think Penance ended up in the Void?" Eevee asked.

"Doubt it," Keiji growled, "He was the one who dragged us here."

He balled his hands into fists.

"Which means he's still around here somewhere. Let's finish this."

Eevee nodded, swallowing hard. She wasn't at all sure of facing Penance alone, just her and Keiji, even if the demon lord was now without the power of his gemstone and even if he was suffering the same magical drain that they were. She had expected, or rather hoped, that the other Angels and the Aeons would be by their side until the very end. She and Keiji had gone it alone before, but never against something like this.

She gripped the Oathkeeper around her neck, remembering the promise she and Keiji had made in the garden of the Stead mansion.

"Together we will defeat Penance."

"Do you really think we can?"

"Honestly I don't know, but I know I must try; that's why I make this promise. Laconfir predicted we would defeat Penance, but I know Penance also has the gift of Farsight, and he would not start a war that he predicted he would lose. For that reason I think fate plays no role in the upcoming battle. It's up to you, me, my father, Fariel, Zell and everyone else involved."

"Then I will also make the same promise, I will defeat Penance."

Except it was up to just the two of them now.

"Damn it all!" Fariel roared ramming her wave sword into the ground, "What the hell happened? Penance was done for why the hell did Keiji and Eevee get sucked in also?"

"All is not lost young one," Tanis said walking past Fariel and looking over the castle walls at the burning Spira, "Keiji and Eevee's battle still rages on, I'm comfident they can return once Penance is delt with once and for all, that is there destiny,"

"Cut the destiny crap! their Teenagers!"

"Calm down Fariel, I may be tough but we have push the children's fate to the back of our minds," Neji said also turning his gaze towards the burning Bevelle, "If those two are ment to defeat Penance and hopefully return, lets make sure they still have a Spira to return to, after all what the hells the point in struggling to save somewhere long whiped off the map,"

Fariel grapped her sword and rose to her feet, "Yeh your right, look at me acting like this in front of my recently risen pawns," Lerek stepped forward from the army of undead.

"Are you willing to leads us one more time?"

"Yeh, come on everyone! Lets wipe out those demons!"

**************

The demon army took there time marching up the road to the temple, the last few remaining defender of bell lined up ready to fight to the death at the front Zell himself stood there along with Alia and Gau all ready to engage, amoung them the leaders of Spira with there most loyal of soilders all stood wi. With a earth shattering roar the demon army stampeded down the temple road.

"Oh **** here it goes," Zell said to himself, why the hell did I have to put myself here at the front he moaned to himself. Suddenly a slight beeze swept through the Bevelle defenders and appearing in flash before them stood the tall muscular figure of Neji blazing with ancient power his arm coated in demononic power, a berserker demon was the first to reach Neji waving his mighty axe wildly, Neji roared and punched forward his fist shattering the great axe and pirecing the large demon through the stomach with such power the beast split in two, suddenly all energy stored in Neji arm released itself in an awsome blast which spread through the road oblinterating all nearby demons and through others off the road, indeed the blast shocked the demons so much as to make them halt there advance.

"Zell, Alia, Gau, everyone you did a great job, now let our reinforcments to the rest,"

"Reinforcements? you mean Yuna and Melina were succesful?"

"Just listen," Concentrating hard the entire reminantes of the Spirian people could hear demons roar and clashes of steel happening all around Bevelle, those still alive around the city were lucky enough to see the spectacular sight of Fariel leading a massive army of undead which completely surronded the city sweep in cutting down demons, Fariel herself sweap through the streets with power torrents of water.

Neji raised his sword to the sky then pointed it at the army of demons, "All gateways connecting the demon realm to Spira are permenantly sealed, so we no longer have the fear of killing them knowing they will return in a matter of minutes, the city is completely surronded and filled with our undead armys, the undead armys are also clearing all demons from Spira so all your homes will be safe when you return, victory is ours Spira, Seize it!" Neji roared and charged towards the awaiting demon army quickly followed by the remainders of Spira's defenders.

*************

Eevee and Keiji walked down the endless white, ever cautious of every step incase they were to fall down an endless pit. Suddenly a cold chill ran down there spines and a evil chilling laugh echoed from behind them, quickly the pair spun round to see the black clad figure of Penance walk towards them his black armor standing out immensely from the white surronded, he stopped several paces from the pair his sword obliveon glowing with a purple aura.

"How many times had I dreamed of our fight and every time I saw both of you fall before my might, tell me, what kind of power do teenagers possess that could change destiny? a power which creates many destiny's, its those damned aeons of yours little girl, and that goddamned demon god blood and power you have young demon, for over 5000 years have tried to obtain the power of the first aeons, everytime it slipping through my hands, and here it is dwelling inside a little a girl, two of the aeons! Do you have any idea how angry that makes me!"

Penance raised his sword, "Now here with no interuptions I will take them all, both of you powers, and this time for sure I will be the ultimate ruler! The mightiest of gods!" Penance lept forward stapping his sword at the pair, Keiji and Eevee quickly seperated and surronded Penance. "There too much of a toy for you, I will take them! Then it wouldn't be long till I obtain Levithan and Diablos."

"Do you think we'd simply hand them over to someone like you?"

"We'll destroy your ambition!"

The final act of the battle for Bevelle was short and bloody. Penance's demons fought back furiously, but the arrival of the Unsent had turned the tide and the outcome was no longer in doubt. Pouring over the city walls, the Unsent drove the demon army into a murderous crossfire with the still-living Spirans who were sweeping out from the central temple. The disciplined and well-armed Atellians, still engaged with the Shadow and the few surviving Spiran airships, had been dismayed at Set's defeat and now the turning of the tide below broke their faith in victory. Their captains pulled up short in the air, snatching their arms into signals to their soldiers. The winged men turned and fled into the stormy sky, heading in a disorderly mass out to sea and looking to regroup with the Atellian ships that had already turned about and begun to retreat. Behind them, the demon-forged warships of Penance's fleet, that had beached themselves to unleash the monsters cramming their holds earlier in the battle, burned as the Spirans swept over the eastern docks.

Caught between the tide of Unsent Spiran heroes and the counterattack of their living counterparts led by Neji, Zell and Yuna, Penance's brass-armoured demons fought on to the death in the outer suburbs. Some of Shuruk'jaar's serpent demons had hunkered down in ruined buildings and were putting up a grim defence, firing their battle-staffs from the windows in a futile effort to slow down the resurgent Spirans. One of them hissed in anger as the demons outside were cut down and banished in swirls of flame, and the Atellians began their semi-controlled flight from the hopeless battle. The final victory had slipped from their grasp, and Penance's grand army was disintegrating. A powerful demon like Xipetotec might have been able to change the course of the battle, but the Master of Pain was gone, laid low by Keiji. A cunning general like the serpent demon's master, Shuruk'jaar, might have been able to rally them and muster an effective defence, but Shuruk'jaar was banished back to the demon world, his Atellian host lying dead in the twisted catacombs of Penance's Calm Lands fortress. And he, a mere lesser demon, was not Shuruk'jaar.

Of their supreme lord Penance, at this critical time, there was no sign. All the demon knew was that the vaunted attempt to merge the immortal dark energy of the demon world with Spira had not happened, and even worse not a few minutes ago he and his fellow demons had felt a sudden void in their souls as the links between their world and Spira were cut by an unknown force. Instinctively they knew that once they were banished from the mortal world, there would be no return. The regiments of demons who were disintegrating outside would not be coming back to aid them.

The demon snarled. If he was to return to the demon world, then it would be of his own volition, not at the point of a Spiran sword. Better to serve his true master in their home dimension than to pursue the half-demon Penance's failed invasion of this alien world.

"Hrek d'roich!" he hissed to his fellow serpent demons, "Hrek d'roich!"

With Spiran fire now hammering into the walls of the building and the Unsent scant seconds from breaking in, the demons stopped firing their jets of green light, abandoned their posts at th splintered windows, and gathered in the centre of the room. In a swirl of purple and black flame, the serpent demons vanished.

In the streets below the surviving Custodians were falling back from the unrelenting pressure of the enemy counterattack, hemmed into a defensive circle by the resurgent Spirans who were closing in from all directions. Their black-skinned demon guide had been slain, and one of their commanders was wounded, falling to his knees and clutching one hand to a bleeding shoulder wound. The female officer, breathing heavily and with blood running down the side of her face, saw Penance's supposedly invincible demons vanishing in droves, until their was only a tight ring of vengeful Spirans surrounding them on all sides. One of the Spirans, a tall handsome man wearing black bracers with raking backswept spikes on his forearms and carrying a sword covered with jagged demonic runes, stepped forward from the silent ranks towards her. Around their commander, the Custodians gripped the spring-load bars of their Dragon Claws with shaking hands, dispirited and fearful.

"Ghede deceived you." the man said levelly, "Penance is not a god."

The Custodian officer turned her head, locking eyes with her injured comrade, and then looked down at the sword in her hand with its engraving of Penance as a winged, avenging angel.  An angel who had demanded they kill fellow Spirans in his name, and yet who was not here to save them in their darkest hour.

"Sin-Penance has deserted us." she whispered in a hollow voice, and threw her sword down at Neji's feet.

<OOC - Right...demons, Atellians, fleet, Custodians...I think that's everybody smile On with the main show!>

Penance darted forward, Oblivion chopping down in a deadly arc towards the top of Eevee's head. Eevee sidestepped, slapping the blade away with the extended barrel of her force lance, but Penance turned the deflection into a 360 spin that brought Oblivion slicing back round towards Eevee from the other side. She threw herself aside only just in time, managing to turn her uncontrolled dive into a somersault that brought her back to her feet. As she whirled to face Penance she realised that she had nearly made a deadly mistake, and that the demon lord would have killed her right then in her split-second of vulnerability if he hadn't been distracted by a flying kick from Keiji.

Eevee braced her feet and twirled her force lance into one of the many guard positions that Alarielle had taught her - all the combat knowledge of the elves and the Aeons was there in her head, but with her contact with Ramuh and Tritoch abruptly severed it now took her a conscious effort to execute the once-effortless moves that might have made her the equal of Penance. She watched Keiji flip back, still on guard but clearly hurting with a stream of blood running down one side of his face, saw Penance flourish Oblivion round his body then above his head as he flowed with deadly grace from one combat stance to another, and felt a momentary pang of despair.

She crushed the impulse and, in spite of what her Aeons had taught her, replaced it with anger. She wouldn't let Keiji down again - together they would destroy this monster who had killed his mother and both her parents. Eevee glanced towards Keiji, and as they locked eyes she knew he was thinking the same thing. Steeling her resolve but unable to stop the tears from spilling down her cheeks, Eevee ran to join Keiji and side by side they charged Penance.

Keijis knuckle-dusters and the white metal of Eevee's force lance flashed a brighter white against the swirling backdrop as they struck. A blade so dark it sucked the light from the air around it rose to meet them. The sky crackled and shook in response to the mighty blows as for the first time the two Angels drove Penance back on the defensive. Keiji dropped low as Oblivion scythed over his head, then sprang up again in an uppercut punch that connected with Penance's chest. Penance rolled with the blow and launched upwards, twisting in midair and then fanning his dark wings so that he glided rather than fell back to the ground. Landing lightly, he paused to flash a wolfish smile towards the Angels before kicking off and propelling himself high into the swirling air.

"Look out!" yelled Keiji, and the two of them leaped in opposite directions as Penance came hurtling down like a thunderbolt, his huge sword striking the ground where Eevee and Keiji had been a moment before with the force of an earthquake. The strange material of the ground resonated with the force of the blow; ribbons of light streaked outwards from the point of impact, flashing in rapidly-changing colours and writhing erratically through the translucent surface almost as though in pain. Once again the reactive world seemed to convulse, the pulses of light that swept across the sky collapsing into whirlpools of violence as more vortexes tore themselves in the air. One of the howling black wormholes appeared at ground level not far behind the three combatants.

And as the shockwaves wracking the world threw Eevee and Keiji off their feet, the same explosion of power hurled two figures from the mouth of the vortex. They were slammed like rag dolls into the ivory ground, sending pulses of light skittering through it in all directions. With his eyes fixed on Keiji and Eevee, Penance did not see them fall, nor see them raise their blood-streaked faces to look past the demon lord at the two young Angels. Eevee and Keiji stood rooted to the spot, expressions of shock and disbelief on their faces, as they looked straight into the eyes of Feyd and Sonya Kobie.

<Decided I'm going to try and get some serious writing done today, so I'll go have lunch and then see what I can come up with for LT>

Just like when she had seen them fall into the Void, the sight of her parents temporarily drove conscious thought from Eevees mind. Then it returned as a confusing whirl, and she found herself wondering if she was going mad, or if this was some cruel trick of the mercurial dimension they were in. Then the two battered figures lying prone on the translucent ground raised their heads and looked straight at her, and she forgot the strange shifting world around her, forgot the vortexes on all sides that threatened to suck them into oblivion, forgot even the battle with Penance, and unfroze. Even as her mind rebelled against what she was seeing she broke into a run towards her fallen parents, her footsteps sending ripples of colour streaking through the ground where her feet impacted the floor.

Penance was on one knee between the two young Angels and the vortex that had thrown out Feyd and Sonya, leaning heavily on his sword. Stripped of the jewel's magical power and cut off from Spira and his source of demonic energy, his quartet of black wings trembled with exhaustion, but his eyes still burned with a cold fire. His brow furrowed as Keiji and Eevee suddenly stopped cold, and he had been about to turn round to see what they were gaping at when Eevee took off. As she unfroze so did Penance, summoning inhuman reserves of strength to launch himself into her path. Eevee reacted only just in time, skidding to a halt and raising her extended force lance in both hands. The downward slash from Oblivion jarred her arms as it struck the lances barrel, her parry halting the blade only centimetres from her head. Penances armoured knee came up into her stomach and she fell backwards, cracking the back of her head against the hard ground. Oblivion scythed down again and Eevee's arms buckled, one end of her force lance driven sideways and down to jar against the ground. Oblivion slid down the lance with it, and as Penance shifted weight onto his front foot to catch himself and recover from the overextension, Eevees hand flew to her other wrist, closed around the hilt that protruded from the cuff of her arm warmer and whipped out one of Fariel's daggers. Penance was faster, twisting his body out of the blade's path as it lunged towards the rent in his breastplate left by the missing jewel, and cuffed the dagger out of Eevees hand with his free arm.

A blade slammed into Penance from behind, striking him in the centre of the back. His armour deflected the killing thrust upwards where it found the joint between his back-plate and his shoulder guard, making the demon lord grit his teeth in pain. He spun round, lashing Oblivion into a horizontal sweep that his assailant only just ducked. Two forked blades punched towards Penance, which the demon lord caught with an expert bind and dragged his opponent towards him before striking him in the mouth with his elbow, sending him sprawling on his back.

"No!" Penance snarled as he finally got a good look at his opponent, "I killed you!"

"Get away from my daughter," growled Feyd Kobie. Blood was streaming from his nose and mouth, and from a second wound in his shoulder where Oblivion had run it through. His left arm hung limp, the triple blades on its gauntlet sheared off where the magic of Penance's sword had overpowered their own. The blades on his right gauntlet were stuck extended, as they had been when Feyd had fallen through the vortex in Penance's castle. Feyd had struck out at Penance with everything he had, but the lightning magic that normally infused his blades was nullified by the strange properties of this world and they had been unable to defeat Penance's armour.

"Why is killing you once never enough with you Angels?" Penance growled, his eyes flicking between Eevee, Feyd and Sonya, who was just getting to her feet, cradling her bleeding hands and looking bewildered. Penance sneered at her, knowing that she was feeling the magic-draining effects of this place. If she hadn't defeated him with all of Tritoch's powers, she was little threat to him now with her connection to the Aeon severed and her elven magic gone.

A mighty shout from behind made the demon lord snap round; he had forgotten Keiji.

Feyd Kobie came to slowly, his vision hazing from black to grey to a dazzling light that forced him to screw up his eyes. He looked up at the sky and shook his head to stop his vision from whirling, before realising that it was not him that was spinning but the sky itself. The bands of iridescent colour sweeping across his view would have caused him to stagger sideways had he not already been lying on his back. The blood from his nose and mouth was running down the back of his throat and he choked, turning onto his side to spit out the hot, coppery liquid.

He tried to gather his thoughts. The last thing he remembered was Penance's castle, a howling black vortex, and a sense of falling before losing consciousness as the endless black swallowed him.

Feyd raised his head and looked around. Were they back in Penance's castle? If so something was drastically different - instead of living stone and a purple haze overhead there was this spinning multicoloured sky, and instead of the piles of skulls and gory fountains there was an infinite plain of translucent white, hazing away into the distance so that it was impossible to tell the location of the horizon.

No, not Penances castle, somewhere else...he and Sonya had fallen through the portal and Eevee...

Eevee! Keiji! Feyd's mind cleared and he looked around. The two teenagers had already been swept away from him, spinning and striking in a deadly dance with Penance out on the ivory plain. Feyd tried to pull himself to his feet but his muscles wouldn't obey, his body still weakened by Penance's blow. He had transferred all of Ramuh's power to Eevee in those last desperate moments at the castle to deny Penance his ultimate victory, and the strange properties of this world were draining what little he had left.

Sonya was beside him, falling to her knees as the same weakness combined with the shock of being hurled between dimensions overtook her.

"No! This is all wrong!" she gasped, "We can't let...we've got to help them!"

Feyd and Sonya looked on as the running battle began to sweep back towards them. Every instinct screamed at them to run to the aid of their daughter and godson, but they could barely summon the energy to stand. Laconfir's prophesy had been right all along. Eevee and Keiji were fighting Penance, and they were on their own. Sonya felt despair seep through every cell in his body.

But as she watched Eevee and Keiji fighting for their lives, defending each other and ducking in and out as a team to force Penance back on the defensive she felt something else - pride. She remembered saying goodbye to Eevee and Keiji outside Ellessar Woods when they had been forced to go their separate ways. She had known then that the two teenagers had the inner strength to accept the mantle of Avenging Angel. She looked at Feyd, who seemed to be thinking the same thing. Feyd remembered the battle against his darker side in the Atellian temple all those years ago, the battle where he was supposed to have banished his doubt, and dropped his gaze. Sonya leant forward and put her arms round her husband, helping to steady him.

They looked up and saw that events were proving their thoughts true. Even in this strange and desolate world, Eevee and Keiji were summoning new reserves of strength from somewhere, to the point that they were actually forcing Penance to give ground. Feyd and Sonya, bleeding and trembling with exhaustion, supported each other as the running battle between Angels and Demon sweep back towards the portal that they had fallen from. The fragile world around them was shredding apart at the seams, and the vortex into the Void gaped before them like a hungry maw. The beams of light flowing through the translucent ground diffracted towards it, flashing into colours of agony as they were sucked into a livid, seething pool just below the mouth of the vortex.

"You can do it!" Feyd and Sonya shouted together over the howling wind that tugged at their hair, dragging all loose matter back into the Void, "You are Avenging Angels!"

They had fulfilled their destiny. Now it was time for Eevee and Keiji to fulfil theirs.

Eevee and Keiji drove forward, Eevee's force lance carving white arcs in the air as she spun and slashed, Keiji a blur of kicks and punches. Penance gave ground, still striking blow for blow with his sword as he was driven back to the very brink of the Void portal. The motes of light seethed through the ground under his feet, spinning in a whirlpool of blood red and livid purple just below the mouth of the portal, almost as if the vortex was casting an iridescent shadow.

Oblivion locked with Eevee's force lance and Penance - demon lord, son of Set, destroyer of worlds - teetered on the brink. He snarled at the Angels through the crossed weapons.

"You will not defeat me!" he shouted, "I am a demon, I cannot be killed!"

The Void snatched at Penance's hair, and his scarlet cloak billowed behind him as the ethereal wind tugged at it, trying to drag him back. But he kept his footing. He gripped Oblivion with both hands and pushed hard into Eevee's force lance, digging a scar into the white metal with the edge of his blade. Eevee pushed back. She wasn't strong enough.

"If you're a demon," Keiji snarled, "Then go to hell."

Black fire boiled around his right arm, crowning him in a corona of lambent flame. The effort of channelling the energy against the draining effect of the Void made him scream out loud.

"DEMONIC BURST EDGE!" he roared and swung his fist at Penance.

"NO!" yelled Penance, and with a backhand blow he sent Keiji rocketing to the side before his fist could connect. Eevee let out a wordless scream and disengaged her force lance from Oblivion's blade with a twirl of the barrel, striking out in a furious blur. Penance's black blade flashed in defence. He could not dodge, only parry, too close to the Void portal to risk losing his footing. Keiji turned his fall into a somersault and landed on his feet. Skidding to a halt he charged forward. Oblivion dropped to sweep away Eevee's force lance, but she reversed the weapon and struck again. Keiji came storming in, black flame swirling around his fist. Penance could not block them both.

Keiji's right fist struck Penance squarely in the chest. The demon lord was lifted off his feet, folded almost double by the force of the blow. The pull of the Void took hold of him and in a flash, he was gone.

The portal convulsed, gaping wide. The streams of light trapped beneath it shot out in all directions and for a moment turned the translucent ground a blinding white. And then the black portal sucked back in on itself and vanished. Keiji and Eevee stood alone on the endless dreamscape, while thunder crackled in the tortured sky above them.

Her heart still thumping in her ears, Eevee swallowed to clear her dry throat and stammered, "Is it over?"

Keiji seemed to sag, the black fire playing over his fist evaporating, "I think we did it."

Both Angels raised their hands to the Oathkeepers around their necks, then Eevee raised her head to meet Keiji's eyes and pulled him into a close hug. Both were nearly dead on their feet, only just holding each other up.

"Mum and dad!" Eevee said suddenly, and spinning round she forced her tired body to run over to where Feyd and Sonya Kobie knelt watching them, supporting each other's shoulders, proud smiles on both their faces. Sonya ignored the deep gashes on her palms to put one hand on her daughter's shoulder, while Feyd did the same to Keiji.

"You saved us all." he said.

"Eevee and Keiji," Sonya said, smiling, "I don't know what to say. I can't express how proud I am, and how much I love you both."

"If you love me then why did you leave, mum?" Eevee shouted, "You went off to fight Penance by yourselves and left me alone! I thought I'd never see you again, not even in the Farplane!"

She dropped to her knees in front of Sonya and broke down in sobs, hot tears streaming down her face. Sonya pulled her daughter close and cradled her head against her chest.

"I'm so sorry, Eevee," she whispered, tears pricking at her own eyes as she stroked Eevee's hair, "We thought we were protecting you."

"How is leaving me all alone protecting me, mum?" Eevee snapped, hiccoughing slightly.

"Laconfir told us that the only way Penance would be defeated was if you and Keiji fought him alone," Feyd said, brushing the tears off Eevee's cheek with his hand, "Your mother and I could never stand back and watch you have to go through that danger on your own. Fari was out of it and Neji was nowhere to be seen, so we tried to finish the fight once and for all, by ourselves, before any more of you were put at risk. Leaving you behind...it was the hardest thing we've ever had to do, but we couldn't tell you because you'd want to come with us. We never wanted to leave you alone, but you have to understand that if there was any chance for us to stop you having to face Penance, we couldn't not to take it."

"But we still had to fight him anyway." Keiji put in.

"Laconfir was right," Feyd sighed, "We were wrong. We thought so much about trying to protect you that we forgot how capable you both are. How strong you are, in both hearts and minds. We didn't give you enough credit, and for that I'm sorry."

"I didn't want credit, dad," Eevee whispered, "I wanted you and mum."

"We're here now, Eevee," Feyd said, putting his arm round his daughter and hugging her, "Thanks to you and Keiji."

* * *

After a minute, all four Angels stood up tiredly and looked around. There were still dozens of portals dotting the pale landscape, spinning silently. They knew exactly which one led back to Spira. Each could feel the intangible pull, the strange but undeniable sense of belonging that radiated from one of the vortexes across the dreamscape. With complete confidence, they walked over and stepped through it.

Cheer's echoed all around the streets of Spira the demon army had been defeated and vanished forever, its was an impossible battle for the Spirian's to win but there determination and iron wills forced them to stand and fight and it payed off, there paitents was rewarded by victory and one more chance to see there fallen loved ones. But despite victory the world of Spira still stood in ruins and for the survivors a many long years of rebuilding stood before them.

In what was left of her bedroom Tsunami gazed out over the balcony to the ruins of Bevelle, she placed her hand gently on the bloodstain on her dusty white dress, although now fully healed the memory on why Keiji was forced to give out that wound hanged over Tsunami, she betrayed the one she loved and her friends.

"I should be dead," She said softly to herself, "I don't deserve to be alive," she said louder walking over to the edge of the balcony, looking over she gaved down on the cracked paving below, suddenly she heard a clatter behind her and spun round, standing at the doorway with a wounded leg was the butler Jeeves.

"Lady Tsunami!" He called out gladly, "Thank goodness you're alive and escaped,"

Escaped? Tsunami thought to herself confused.

"When Keiji told me that Ghede had killed Trevor and kidnapped you I was so so worried, I'm so sorry about you're father he was a good man and deserved better,"

Tsunami's mind was suddenly casted back to that night.

Tsunami turned over in her bed, the night was cool but the sheets were hot and she struggled for sleep, turning over she leaned her head on her hand surporting the weight of her head with her elbow, she looked at Keiji who untroubled by the heat was sleeping soundly and with a slight snore. Tsunami smiled with a slight giggle. "Should I wake him?" She thought to herself wickedly, slowly she run her hand down Keiji's bare and leaned down to kiss when suddenly at the corner of her eye she saw a figure standing on the balcony springing to attention.

"Don't stop on my account," Ghede said wickly stepping into the moonlight.

"What are you doing here?" Tsunami demanded.

"I've come to collect you, you've done a good job so far but now Penance would like to see his daughter, I trust you're ready?"

"No Ghede, I refuse I don't want to see him, I have a family and it is not Penance,"

"Oh," Ghede said with little shock, nobbing his head he walked across the bedroom to the bed standing over Keiji.

"Careful, you'll wake him," Tsunami warned him. Paying no attention Ghede drew a dagger and began dangling it over Keiji.

"Look at him sleeping peacefully it would be too easy,"

"That won't kill him or you would have done it long ago, now leave, I'm warning you,"

Without a word Ghede walked over to the bedroom door, "I wonder how daddy's doing," he said sinisterly while leaving. Tsunami froze sensing Ghede's evil intention.

"Fine I'll hear you out,"

"Excellent, get dressed I'll wait outside,"

Tsunami met Ghede outside Trevors bedroom door, with a wide smile he slowly opened it. "Tsunami, you know you're role in this was to spy on the young angels, and break them from within, you've done an excellent job getting the boy to fall in love with you, but you promised to return to Penance, you made that promise to me many years ago, fail to up hold on these promise and I will kill you and all you know, and it won't be quick," Ghede's eyes pierced Tsunami's soul Ghede ment everyword. "If you want the nightmares to cease and Penance's voice out you're head, come with me now, Penance can take over you're mind and he will,"

Tsunami remembered the years of torture she endured, she could feel Penance's thoughts and was often influenced by them, "Ok Ghede, I'll come with you,"

"Excellent but first a test of faith, you can't have two fathers," Ghede tossed Tsunami and decorated dagger and in a flash timeshifted behind her pushing her through Trevor's door. "Do it," he said constantly his soft creepy voice cutting to her soul, trembling she held the dagger over Trevor still sleeping soundly.

"No I can't do it," she said a tears in her eyes.

"Yes you can!" Ghede said jumping forward he pushed down Tsunami's hand the dagger plunging into Trevor chest, the man's eyes shot open in the pain and he gazed up at his beloved daughter, crying Tsunami mouthed the words 'I'm sorry' as slowly any sign of life faded from the middle aged man's eyes, crying Tsunami slumped down to her knees her hands still holding onto the dagger, in despair she placed her head on the side of the bed weeping. Laughing sinisterly Ghede put his hand on Tsunami's sunken head. "Well, with you're hands all over the dagger and blood on you're hands and dress looks like you're a murderer, and you now have no life here, no give into you're evil intentions and come with me."

Back in the present Tsunami's eyes filled with tears, "Please leave me for a moment Jeevees," With a bow Jeevee's left the room leaving Tsunami in the dark empty room, she dropped down to her knees cupping her head in her hands sobbing loudly. Keiji, not only did you spare my life but you made sure I had a life to come back to, why after all I did to you, I don't deserve it. With Keiji still in her mind Tsunami remembered her vision, with light returning to the world it was clear Penance was gone, her mind was free of his thoughts, the last thought she remembered was Penance falling into the void with Keiji and Eevee in tow. The vision was true Keiji and Eevee would defeat Penance be lost to spira as a result. The thought hit Tsunami hard, over come with despair she advanced towards the edge of the balcony, slowly standing on the railings she looked down on the hard ground below, closing her eyes she drifted forward, when suddenly a strong arm grabbed her wrist before she had time to fall.

Looking round Tsunami gazed down her heart skipped in shock, holding her wrist was none other than Keiji, fresh from the battle his clothes were tattered, his skin dusty and bruised, his wounds still bled. No words were exchanged as Keiji helped Tsunami down from the Balcony. "I'm so sorry," Tsunami said with tear filled eyes. Wiping away Tsunami's tears with his thumb Keiji smiled. "Guess I'm a sucker for a pretty face," he said softly, "Penance is gone now, so no more tears Tsunami,"

Turning round Tsunami once again gazed out over Bevelle, "Why did you spare my life? You should of killed me, I shouldn't be alive,"

"Because I love you," Keiji put his arms round Tsunami's waste and rested his head on her shoulder. "I don't need any other reason, and I know you are not a murderer,"

Tsunami smiled and leaned her head against Keiji's her soft sweet smelling hair gently brushing against her cheek and crossed her arms over his, together they looked Bevelle. "Thank you Keiji."

(That is some sappy **** lol)

Sorry couldn't edit my earlier post so have to add them on to the end.

Well, its nice to know that the world still has some misery." Soven whispered to the shadows.

The sky outside the cell was dark and a taste of foreboding clung in the air. Soven had always loved storms; they inflicted fear and panic in the weak.  He once feared storms and would cling to the warmth of his mother, but he had aged, he became more powerful and fearful, he laughed at such storms.

But laughing has fallen out of Sovens soul.  Long ago Soven was the ultimate power on the planet.  His might was unmatchable, unbeatable, and unstoppable.  But that was long ago.  Before Demon ruined it all.  That winged interfering so-and-so.  Life would be so much sweeter now if he had stayed out of it.  Soven would be King and Emperor of the world; instead he is left to rot in this cell, custom built just for him.  Baby brother was always sweet to his big brother.

Soren, almost a match for Soven in every aspect of combat: speed, strength and skill.  While Soven craved dominance and power, Soren chose a different path, to find out the truth about our fathers.  As far our Soven cared, the pair of dont even rate a memory but for Soren they represented something more, something noble.  Bull****.  As far as Soven cares only three people matter: himself, Soren and, of course, Mother.

She is a Goddess among mortals with no equal and the single largest heart that the Spira could hold.  Beautiful, intelligent, witty, clever, inventive, creative, proud, loving, caring, soft, loving, patient: she is truly special.  When Soven left he knew that if she asked he would have stayed for all eternity, but she knew he had to leave.  Soren wasnt as understanding.

After Soven started his push for control Soren hunted him downed, amazingly defeated him and dragged Soven to his new home, this bloody cell, just West of the Thunder Plains and was guarded day and night by a thousand guards, and there Soven lay for 6 years, waiting, thinking, planning when he, for the first time ever, received a visitor.

Soven sat on his plain bed looking out the barred window, thinking of life and the point of it.  If there was a point and thought Why live only to die one day?  Why seek so-called "happiness"?  Soven learnt long ago happiness was useless, with so much pain in the world.

"Do you always think with so much self-pity?  Or have you been here too long?"

I have been here too long, Soven thought.  I'm starting to hear voices in my head.

"Think again, Soven the Warrior."

Soven jerked himself out of his train-of-thought and stared through the bars to a tall man, covered in shadows.  Sovens stared straight at those eyes and saw, for the first time ever, such evil that chilled his blood.  Hes wanted to get away from him, not run just not be near him.  Ive seen eyes like those, he thought Their the same as Sin...

After a long silence Soven spoke in a hiss, "Three things: 1 - Who are you?  2 - How'd you get in?  And 3 - why are you speaking to me?"

The stranger smiled.  "A while ago I was attacked by people wishing to kill me, and they almost did.  I'm speaking to you because I have an offer for you, Soven the Unbeatable.  How would you like to be my right hand man?  You can become the right hand man of the new ruler Spira.  The successor of the monster Sin."

He wondered for a moment.  How much of a possibility is it that a complete stranger would step out of the shadows and offer so much for so little?  Not frakking likely.  Soven smiled.  "Nice bed time story," he yawned loudly.  "I've been trying to get to sleep for hours.  Cheers."  Soven closed his eyes with a smile and began to wonder....
